2000 Subaru outback manual transmission makes a popping grinding sound in first gear.

most four wheel drives do not spin both front tires other wise you would hop around corners, that being said you should be able to stop the spinning side tire by holding it in place ,do this before the tire starts spinning ,then the other side should spin.if not you have a problem start with the axle and work your way back in the drive train, simple process of elimination..the grinding noise sounds like a broken gear tooth in the tranny.requires tear down and replace gear.take it to a professional.hope this helps

How do I replace a gear shift light bulb in a 2000 Subaru outback?

gently pull the surround around the gear shift off, you may need to pull the knob off which has a screw. you will see the bulb in there, push & turn to remove it. there is a number on it you'll need when you get a replacement.

What is the torque on transmission

If you mean the bell housing to engine mount bolts, then good and tight is right. You don't need to torque them, just get them good and tight.

Ignition fuse blowing

If you have everything unplugged, and your still blowing the fuse, then you have a short to ground somewhere. Here is a picture of the schematic, not really that much going on in this system. I would be checking the main starter wire for chaffing along with any other wires in the area, including the wires coming out of the fuse box. And see if you can at least hear the starter relay click when you try to start it. If you can't hear it, try swapping it with another relay in the fuse box that doesn't have an important function, like fog lamps, or the horn, temporarily of course. If you get tired of blowing large fuses, you can get a circuit breaker of the same amperage at any parts store along with some wire and blade type terminals, and you can insert the blade terminals in the sbf number 4 slots and connect it to the circuit breaker. And inst of blowing a fuse all the time, it will just reset automatically. just make sure it doesn't get too hot. I hope this info helps! 29_sb00legac_sm863-070a.png&width=568&height=490&displaytype=display&imgrotation=&links=

I have a 2000 subaru outback with a 2.5 sfi single overhead cam is it a interference engine?

Take off valve cover an rotate top pulley for camshaft. Watch all your valves operate up and down. If they go through full motion up and down and you don't have any binding and everything looks straight as it goes through opening and closing while you are rotating shaft then you should be fine on the head.

Why is there a grinding sound when turning? Power steering fluid is full

Grinding or whining? A lot of power steering pumps kinda whine when turning. How long has it been since you've changed the power steering fluid? Since 2000??? It looses it viscosity kinda like motor oil. I'd change it first, that's the cheapest and easiest thing to do

Oil on the plug wires when changing plugs

Yes this could be a head gasket but if it is on the side you fill your oil it could be spill off from filling without a funnel. Clean them up real good and check again. If your gasket is bad your car will be running rough or not holding an idle.

Chances are good that you have a blown head gasket. This is a very typical problem with Subaru's with over about 120,000 miles. There is a slight possibility that your radiator is plugged.

Why are the belts are whining and the power steering is stiff? Best way to address these issues?

Most likely air is being entrained into the PS fluid. Look inside the PS fluid tank while idling - maybe need a heper to turn the steering wheel - if you see foam/bubbles, that is a problem. Often an easy fix with an o-ring ro 2. dig around at www.subaruoutback.org for more info/diagrams.
