How's it going Gary? I own a 1997 Subaru Impreza and I have done wheel bearings myself. It is a tough process. I would recommend doing it yourself if you are mechanically inclined. Be sure to check www.RS25.com or www.scoobymods.com. Here's a link I found with a quick search on Nasioc.
this problem will be down to the oil pump and will need replaceing (on the impreza it will need a bigger oil pump as the imprezas have a comon problem with oil supply to the top of the heads)

sounds like one of the vacume pipes or one of the pipes to the turbo are leaking wich will cause too much air going into the engine and make it hesatate and stall.

use another vehicle and start by connecting the jump leads from the negative on one battery to the negative on the other and do the same with the positive, the positive is the one with the cross or the red wires. dont worry if u get a little spark when connecting the jump leads its perfically normal, then simply start the other vehicle up and leave it running for aruond 5 minuates then try starting your can.(you may need to rev the other car up a bit to raise the power being transfered) be very careful not to put the jump leads on the wrong terminals.
i hope this advice helps u,

once you change fuel octane it may run sluggish because the car is used to running at a better octane to run more efficient. go back to 93 and see if that may change it back to normal (note that it may take your car a few runs to get back to normal)
If it's a push button start that you're talking about, make sure your brake lights are coming on when it's acting up. Sometimes I've had intermittent brake on/off switches cause a no crank concern because the car doesn't know you're stepping on the brake pedal. Just have someone watch the brake lights if it acts up on you.
The click you hear is probably the blower motor relay . Does your vehicle have A/C ? Drain is probably plugged ,that's why all the water was in there . Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? How to use a voltmeter to test electrical circuits ? Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb/ Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine . Under system click on HVAC , then under subsystem HVAC controls will come up - pop in on it's own . Click the search button then the blue link's one at a time . Does your vehicle have manual or automatic climate control ? Second link is automatic ,first link is for manual . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bXZWKUZL9k
