In the process of installing

there are 2 different styles 1 has a bolt hole molded in it and the other has a metal clip that holds it in. Of course the bolt only goes in one way and the other is pushed in, just have it in a position that you can unplug it. The actual rotation of the sensor does not matter.

hi there is over 50 problems that cause the light to come on so it could be really anything, you can check the knock sensor by removing it and cleaning it as it may be as simple as that, if all else fails i reccommend getting the car scaned at a repair shop as this is fast, cheap and tells you the exact problem without replacing parts that arent the problem

Subaru 97 speed sensor trouble

There are actually two Vehicle Speed Sensors (VSS). I'm going to assume you have a 2.5 liter engine and an automatic transmission.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 (output shaft rotation sensor) is mounted to the extension case (from the outside of the case). The sensor outputs a pulse signal which is transmitted to the TCM where it is converted to vehicle speed.

The transfer clutch drum is connected directly to the rear wheel driving propeller shaft. Vehicle speed sensor 1 on the AWD model detects rear-wheel speed.

Vehicle Speed Sensor 2 provides vehicle road speed information to the ECM. The ECM uses this data to properly determine ignition and fuel delivery curves. The sensor consists of a reed switch and magnetic rotor turned by the speedometer cable.

One rotation of the magnetic rotor opens and closes the reed switch four times, producing a digital signal which is converted to vehicle speed by the ECM. The sensor operates whenever the vehicle is moving with ignition ON. As the transmission rotates, the speed sensor sends a pulsed on/off signal to the ECM.

The speedometer uses VSS 2 for it's signal.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answer).

Just changed the plugs and

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. This is very well possible. If the plug wires are in the wrong spot, it will cause this. Make sure that the spark plugs were gapped correctly as well. Most plugs come pregapped but just make sure. Check for any wires or hoses that may be loose from changing the plugs. Make sure everything is put back on. When you change plug wires, make sure you mark them. I would double check the plug wires. If you didn't have this issue until you changed them, more then likely, that is whats wrong. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa.

1997 subaru over heats new radeator thermostat water pump

Hi,
Check to make sure the thermostat is installed the correct way around. It's easy to get it wrong.
Bulb part should face the engine block - while the spring should be on the radiator side.

For the price of a replacement - just fit a new one the right way around. Use a new gasket and a smear of blue Hymolar to seal it. Use coppergrease on the thin bolts and don't overtorque.

The dimmer switch on the stalk usually operates a relay in the fuse box.
It could be the dimmer switch, relay, lowbeam fuse, or odd coincidence both lowbeam filaments went out.
Use a test light and work backwards.
