I have a 1999 cadillac deville. My cooling fan is not turning on. My car is over heating. Is there a connection?

There is nothing really in the water-related part of the system that has anything to do with the fan. The hoses, thermostat, heater core, etc. are simply a conduit to move the water through the engine to provide cooling. The fan is the crucial element to avoiding overheating. While the car is in motion, air flows through the radiator, cooling the coolant down and removing the excess heat. Once you stop, however, or get in a stop-and-go environment, there is limited airflow through the radiator to provide this heat reduction. That is where the fan comes into play. What makes the fan work depends upon what you are asking the vehicle to do. Testing the fan circuitry is rather simple if you understand a few things. The fan only needs to run to cool the engine if the engine coolant gets above a certain temperature (usually about 220F). The fan will be ordered on and run until the coolant drops to about 180-190 (thermostat temp). The confusion is that the thermostat has something to do with turning the fan on. The thermostat only controls the flow of water through the system. It stays closed until the water temp reaches it setpoint (usually 180-190F), then open to allow water to flow through the engine. There is a coolant temperature sensor, usually installed near the point where the thermostat is, and it sends coolant temperature information to the ECM. The ECM uses this information to control fuel-air mixture and to control the cooling fan to operate when needed. The fan and the fan relay can be tested very easily by simply turning on the car's A/C. Even if your A/C unit isn't working, simply putting the dash controls to an A/C position, will automatically power up the cooling fans, since the A/C requires CONSTANT airflow thru the font of the engine to maintain cooling. If the fans don't work in the A/C position, then the problem is not likely to be the coolant temperature sensor. It is more likely to be a fan relay or the fan itself.

Can a bad tensioner cause an engine to overheat?

A bad tensioner can cause an engine to overheat in the sense that when a bad tensioner breaks, it will cause a loss of turning movement to all the accessories of the engine including the water pump, and when the water pump stops turning, the flow of coolant will stop and the engine will start to overheat.

A 99 deville the key want turn to unlock trunck what to do.

Spray lube in the lock cylinder. Most likely you have to open it from the inside of the trunk and replace the lock cylinder. Remove the back seat to get in the trunk. This is the biggest problem with key FOBs. No one opens a door or trunk with the key. The cylinders corrode and lock up the pins on the inside of them.

The driver side window button does not roll the

Its the window switch. I stopped getting "clicking" action on my driver side/driver window button, so I switched it with one from a back window (meaning I couldnt roll down the back one from the driver side control anymore. This was temporary. I went to the junk yard and of 12 98/99 devilles, all of them had the switch pulled already. It is a pretty common problem I guess. New aftermarket cost around $80. All you need is a screwdriver to get at it, plug in the new one and you are fine.

1999 cadillac deville.. oil light came on and the engine shut its self off

The vehicle has gone into self protection mode. There was no oil pressure (hence the light coming on). Check if the engine oil level is correct, if so, you will have to call your dealer to find the problem. Could be oil pump or maybe just a faulty oil pressure sensor.

How to reset change oil soon light

Oil Life Monitor Resetting (KD, KE) Description The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 12 500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL message may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12 500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change. The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed. Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed. Resetting Procedure Press the INFORMATION SKIP button on the DIC control panel in order to display the OIL LIFE LEFT message. Press and hold the RESET NO button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.

I have a 2000 cadillac deville

You can rent a cooling system preasure tester at a parts store. These engines run so close to boiling that they must be able to hold presure or they overheat. Presurize the system and check for even the smallest leaks at all hose connections. I fought this problem for a long time before I figured it out.
