My 2004 audi s4 makes gronchy noise when i put it

If I've understood your problem correctly.....when changing from 1st gear into second the box is giving a metal on metal crunching sound?
  • This would be the syncromesh ring which is not equalizing the speed correctly.
  • The problem usually happens when there is wear on the same part.
  • Check to make sure that the correct transmission fluid has been used in the box.
  • To alleviate the problem and delay the time when it will require attention, use the double de- clutch method of changing gears, especially when the transmission is cold.
  • The double de-clutch is carried out in the following way.
  1. When in gear and changing from 1st gear to 2nd, change into neutral and release the clutch and then depress again before selecting 2nd gear....It is not required to rev the engine in the neutral position when changing up....
  2. When changing down rev the engine when the shift lever is in neutral for each change.
You'll soon get the hang of it and stop the crunching sound, protecting the box at the same time....

I have a 2004 Audi

check the carpet under the front seats is dry,if wet, then the electronic brains for the car is suspect.if dry, wipe your brow and be thankfull,it costs as much as the cars worth(nearly).the best way to find the fault is to get it on a diagnostic, then you can decide if its something you can fix or have someone else do it.i take my own car in,as the cost of the diagnostic for an audi is too high for me.and it saves a LOT of hasle.......

2nd gear drops hard

Dear Madam or Sir,

this is a well known problem with the Audi-transmissions, we do have a lot of failures with them over here in Germany. ;)

There are some software updates available, in many cases this fixed the problem.

Another possibility is a faulty transmission speed sensor, this is causing the hard shift behaviour.

First you should see the dealer to check the transmission control module´s trouble code memory and to check if there is a software update available for your car.

Why does so much heat enter my 2004 audi s4 from

Hello,

the cause is the exhaust system and the two-way catalystic converter system of your S4.

The converters become very hot if you put the hammer down (app. 500 deg. celsius on the outside) and even though there are heatshields mounted between the converters and the vehicle´s floor, you can feel the heat inside.

The transmission itself is producing high temperatures as well, so no worries, remember your S4 is sport´s car ;)

Heating on drivers side does not work, heating on

In front or on the side of the HEATER DUCT casing (under dash), you'll probably find the skinny stiff WIRE that controls the direction of heat flow .. has either slipped free of it's lever, or the part holding the wire has snapped.

If it's just off.. slip it back into place. If the lever has snapped, you can temporarily attach the wire to the lever with a 'twist tie', circled around both parts repeatedly and twisted firmly .. until you find a replacement part.
Also.. if the control lever (or button) on your heat controls has been used in a sharp or abrupt manner, it may cause the inner plastic flap to break from its mountings. This is a more costly repair.

I need to replace the clutch in my s4 convertible

This is a complex question. I'm not familiar with the s4. Is it front wheel drive or rear wheel? do you have access to a hoist or is this an on the ground project? An experienced shop could have this done in a day... provided they have a hoist open. I would imagine if this is your first time it's going to be a couple of days. If this is front wheel drive most of them have a subframe that comes off first, it's going to be a real pain if you don't have a hoist and a transmission jack. Can it be done on the floor, you bet, but I wouldn't do it and I've put in hundreds of transmissions.
