Hi ,im a professional auto electrician and i specialize in car alarms and car audio installations ,its very likely your car alarms causing this as they do have this common problem the world over, its also very difficult to explain how to fix it from only words but here goes !
so first number #1 I would check your car and key ring for a strange short stubby looking chrome key ,that ,if you find it ,can sometimes disarm the alarm on the siren normally located under your bonnet,it (the siren module) will have a rubber door on it that the keyhole is under, if you locate your alarm key try turning this in the siren and try starting your car ,if it cancels your 'ignition kill mode on your alarm "GREAT"then leave it in this mode until you can have a new alarm fitted or just leave it if you dont care to have an alarm, and if you dont have this special key i would then do this #2 replace the tiny battery in the alarm remote control as they can be very intermittant when they are old and failing (you may want to try this 1st) ,failing that here is the main information you will need to know to disconnect the alarm from your ignition permanently but i would only suggest you try this if your at all confident with your wiring skills or advise someone that is of a printout of these instructions .....remove the plastic lower dash covers directly behind your ignition keyhole, this will reveal the ignitionsFAT LARGE wires that start your motor and supply power to your car, there will be one or two of these FAT wires that have been cut and the alarms wires will be joined to them ,you should easily be able to spot these but if its covered in electrical tape you will need to remove it to reveal these ,all you have do when you find these wires that have been changed by the alarms original installer then simply cut them alarm wires away from the FAT original wires and join the FAT original wires of the SAME COLOUR to each other ,this will completely bypass your alarm system ,make sure you join these wires properly with solder and electrical tape or big electrical block wire connectors as they carry lots of electrical power to the cars engine ,you cant shock yourself from these as its only 12volts its just the risk of fire if they touch metal on the car under there ,"note" some better car alarms have another fuel kill on them and if its been hooked up too then you will need to have this removed professionally ok ,i hope this leaves you in a better understanding of the problem you have ,
and THANK YOU for using FixYa

My 95 Audio A6 has

Hi, if it is the ( O ) symbol on a yellow background, it means your front brake pads are worn and need to be replaced.

The reason your A6 is so smart and "knows" it is time for front pad replacement, is that the brake pads have a sensor. When the pads are worn almost all the way down, the sensor circuit is opened and the car's computer lights up the yellow ( O ) display.

The pads with this sensor have a sensor plug with either a round or square-rounded style connector. Be sure to purchase the correct kind.

You will most likely need new front brake rotors (discs). It is unlikely there is enough rotor material to have them machined and re-used (some laymen say have the rotors "turned") so you will need new ones.
