1990 Audi v8 Quatro. Why wont it start?
Ohm out your reference sensor and speed sensor aka crank pos sensors. They are both located on drivers side up under exhaust manifold on back of the block. 1000 ohms is perfect.

How do I replace the alternator on my 1990 Audi
unbolt remove and replace. getting to the point you can unbolt may be a little work. if you dont have decent tools, and get confused by reading books, maybe get someone that does.
otherwise hunt down the manual and read it. or you could start by reading any shop manual that has picture or detailed instructions on replacing an alternator. start by looking at your belts. alternators are attached to belts.
good luck

I have a audi i cant put the surpentine belt back
Click on the following Direct Link. I know you said Serpentine (correct spelling) Belt and this Link has Timing Belt; however this does have the Serpentine Belt Diagram and also some key instructions to putting it back-on. After going to the Link, scroll down the page (to about half-way down the page) to Diagrams: G00039904, then G50H16367, then G50J16369.
In Diagram G00039904: it has the "Hinged Mounting Bracket" which has the Pulley holding tension on the belt keeping it tight. This must be loosened (NOT REMOVED) in order to get a serpentine belt back on. Then re-tightened in order to have the correct amount of tension.
In Diagram G50J16369: this Hinged Mounting Bracket has Mounting Bolts which again must be loosened (NOT REMOVED) in order for the hinge mounting bracket to move - loosening the Pulley = loosening the Serpentine Belt.
There are a couple of additonal Diagrams regarding the Electric Fan Mounting Bolts etc., that are useful for your reinstallation.
Let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions. Feel Free to contact me at FixYa.com!

1990 audi quattro. how to remove the door panel?
This is great as I am doing one of these right this moment and this one has gone long since unanswered and there appears to be no solution.
For the front panel.
1. Remove the two Phillips screws front and rear at the top of the panel.
2. Remove 3 - 4mm Hex head screws in the arm rest, these are expansion fasteners so you will not be able to completely remove the screw. When you have these loose enough the arm rest will slip straight out.
3. Pull interior door handle until you can see the Phillips screw hidden near the hinge and remove.
4. Pull out door handle and carefully release cable from the handle assembly. Be careful with this clip as it can easily be bent and damaged.
5. Start at bottom of door panel and pull the panel straight out, once the bottom is free lift upward until panel comes off.

Location of slave cylinder for clutch
its on (top) of the gear box near the bell housing where the clutch and fltwheel is. Its hard to see from the engine bay but easy to get to from under the car. Easy to get out but a lot harder to get back in. Hope this helps

Front outer tie rods
Apply some up pressure on the bottom of it, this will bind it so you can tighten it on up. Yes indeed it must be aligned after installing new tie rod ends.

It sounds as if you have two problems, not related.
- The high idle sounds like a restriction of the cable to the fuel system from the accelerator.
Check under the hood while it is misbehaving and locate where the cable terminates (throttle body I suspect) and tap movable parts there with a finger to see if you can influence the idle.
You may just need a little judiciously applied lubrication in the right place although I had a car years ago that had a sheathed accelerator cable that ate into the soft plastic liner and would eventually hang, necessitating jabbing the gas pedal to break it loose. I replaced the lousy cable with a couple of pullies to guide an open woven steel wire around corners.
The 17 volts is either because of a failed regulator (fix this before it eats 'stuff' in your electrical system) or a battery that is nearing the end of its life.
The crummy modern battery builds internal resistance until it no longer charges from the car's alternator.
Even if that is the case, the terminal voltage should never be allowed to rise that high by the regulator.
Typically, anything beyond 14.3-14.4 will shorten the life of your battery and cook the water out of the acid-water solution.
