The problem may be low Freon, has it been pressure tested to see what the system pressures are? If not sure try adding some freon yourself using a a/c recharge kit available at most autoparts stores, just follow the instructions, if you are sure freon pressure is ok there may be a problem with the a/c clutch relay, it's located in the fuse box under the hood, all relays and fuses are marked on the inside of the cover, look for the 'MG/CL relay and try replacing it. Other than that there's not much more you can do yourself and it will require a professional using some specific special equipment to check the system.
