show me how you remove the timing belt on 1997 lexus 300ES

sounds like you have gotten water into the electrics somewhere and it just needs to dry out.you can try to use a blow gun and blow dry all the electrics under the hood and see if it starts.

Your Lexus has struts and unless you have access to a spring compressor and air tools, personally I wouldn't recommend it. Any competent shop should be able to do it reasonably, lots offer sales so shop around (Sears, Midas, etc..) and 99% of the time they don't have to re-align your car. (unless the worn parts have worn/damaged steering parts)

It means Electronically Controlled Transmission.

Basically in the older models there is an option to turn ECT on which allows for better acceleration as it's controlled electronically

You may have pressed a button which is labeled "ECT" perhaps near the shift knob or could be somewhere near the dashboard as well.

It's nothing to worry about, unless the light indicates that ECT is not working.

Back trace what you did. You may have unplugged something and forget to re-connect it. You mean the distributor cap,,,,, or the ENTIRE distributor???? If the later, then you must be 180 degrees off.

You need to get the codes from the computer to know where to look. This could be a simple O2 Sensor and on this model vehicle the ECM will go into fail safe mode that will let you drive it to a service location for repair. The stored code will tell you which it is and what you need to look at for a repair.

Even though there is no check engine light I would still take it to Auto Zone to see if there are any stored codes.

If it is not a factory stereo, it would be the blue wire, you can also connect amp wire straight up to red which is also the ign. wire for the radio. That way the amp will turn on with key also.

Try taking some baking soda on a cue tip cotton swab and clean the connections where the battery touches. A lot of times a little corrosion causes the battery not to make a good connection, and then you battery operated devise won't work.

The battery light may be indicating a weak alternator. Check the voltage at the battery with the engine idling. If the voltage is less than 14 volts, replace the alternator.

Im not sure the model lexus you have but most of them like the es300 has the starter up top, if you open the hood and locate the battery on the driverside and then look left and down you will see the starter, its at the rear of the engine on top near the battery, good luck, hope this helps.
