1990 Lexus LS 400 - Page 9 Questions & Answers
I have a 99 Lexus rx300 that won't turn over
sounds to me like an idle air control valve. if the car starts and runs but then dies immediately then most likely thats it. it happens all the time on the 3.0 v6. you dont need to replace it however, just take it to a dealer or an aftermarket shop and have them clean it out. Id stick with a lexus/toyota shop though just because they will do it right because they have seen it alot.
Car is over heating even though it doesn't show on the gauge
check for air in the system,as it will give a reduced water volume to the coolant temperature sender. there is also a fan switch on the rad that turns on the cooling fan,if your fan does not come on it will overheat.
look for green around the coolant sensor,as it mayn be leaking and drawing in air
Where is the ignition control module at on the
The location is
Under hood, passenger side, front side of shock tower, mounted on top of fenderwell. Here is a picture of what it is that you are looking for:
Easy to get to and easy to replace. I'm afraid it might not be so easy on the wallet however. Do me a favor and let me know if you have any further questions about your vehicle. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
My sister's Lexus is draining the power from the
She has whats call a parasitic drain. Something is remaining on or activated that shouldn't be. You can get get a parasitic drain test to verify this but i wont find the problem. Unless its like a light bulb or something you can visually see that's still on you will have to get it hooked up to a scanner to see what's staying on. You could always disconnect the negative side of the battery when you leave it for awhile if you don't wish to spend the money.
Engine Temp indicates in acceptable range, but am
Most engines today run very hot intentionally (an engine is a heat pump and is most efficient when the most heat is being made, but below the heat level that will cause it to self destruct) Many competent shops have a "heat gun" that can accurately determine if the engine is too hot, or normal. If a fan problem is detected, the system needs to be tested to determine if it is the fan motor, relay, sensor or wiring/computer that is causing it. Since your gauge reading appears normal, you may not have a real problem, aside from that you can't touch the engine when it's hot, but you don't do that much while driving!
1990 Lexis LS400 engine idle speed
Sounds like your IAC (idle air control) valve could be going bad. It is located on the throttle body and is held on with a couple of screws. Easy to replace and normally relatively inexpensive. give that a try and it should take care of your idling issues. Thanks for using FixYa!
Well, I set mt crankshaft
Messing with the crankshaft gears is like suicide. I know each gear has a specific position to function right. You can find that at youre local library. They have many re-pair books. Lots of them are good with large pictures and detailed instructions. But for fear of messing it up more, i would get a hold of a book and take it from the beginning. Lets hope what you've done hasnt caused too much irrepairable damage.
Well A T-SHIRT GOT CAUGHT
Gosh we all been there at some point or another so hang in there. What I think you might be mis-understanding is cams turn half the speed of crankshaft so one revolution is not going to re-align those marks.Another fact is it takes 2 revolutions of the crank to get back to the compression stroke of a cylinder. I would definatley re-do it as you have mentioned by removing the belt and setting it all back up from scratch. An OEM belt will have marks where all pulleys will align on the belt and you will be certain not to be a tooth off anywhere. The crank mark on the belt will be white and the green lines on the belt will match the dots on the cam gears. There is an exact count on belt notches between gears and use these lines to insure your good all away around and back in time.
