Before you start, you has to make sure there is 12V going to the fuel pump when the key is at the ON position.
Check for +12 volt at fuel pump relay output.
Fuel pump safety switch and/or fuel pump relay can be bad.
Make sure you purchase a Bosch pump (good quality pump) and a NEW stainer. (see picture below)
Some shop sell the in two different boxes. Some manufacture see both as a kit.
DO NOT ATTEMPT to clean and save the stainer. Get a new one.
A fuel filter is also a must
DANGER!!
You must perform this job in a well ventilated area.
Disconnect the positive battery cable and shut off all electrical product before you start.
You has to drain the fuel tank and store the fuel in a DOT approved gasoline container.
Disconnect gas filler hose and EVAP lines
You has to drop the fuel tank to gain access to the top of the fuel tank.
Gasoline is about 8 pounds per gallon. You may need help to drop the tank even the tank is almost empty.
Here is the top view of your fuel pump.
Mark the orientation of the existing wiring/pump and re-install the new pump wiring.
The strainer is very long.
Take your time and insert the stainer and pump vertically into the tank.
Re-check the wiring.
Do a quick 20 second test by reconnect the positive cable and ignition ON. You should hear the pump energize.
Disconnect the positive after test.
You will need two or more person to lift and fasten the tank bands.
Re-connect gas filler line and EVAP lines.
FAIL TO secure these lines will cause CHECK ENGINE LIGHT and CODE.
Full tank with 1 gallon of gasoline, check for leaks
Full the remainder gas after full inspection.
A aged gas cap will leak small amount of gas vapor.
You may fail state emission inspection just because of a leaky gas cap.
Replace the cap before you are due for the next safety/emission inspection.
