1992 Lexus Sc 400 - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I have sc 400 1992
The trac light means there is a problem with one of the sensors for the traction control system.
The key wont come out
the key will not leave the ignition unless the car is in park and the key is in off position. it could be whatever tells the car that its in park or a problem with the slot itself. ive had similar problems with the key sticking in multiple locks in the car, even the ignition. i tried deicing and lubricating all of them; it did nothing. so i tried my spare key, it worked on every lock. wat ive found is that the tumbler arrangement for this car prevents duplicating but the key itself can wear out over time due to its complex shape. try a spare key if you have one or order a new one from the dealership.

Looking to buy 92 sc400...
Do yourself a favour and walk away unless you want to buy a big repair bill. Only a fool would consider buying a vehicle in this condition.
My heater does not work!!
If your AC is working with temperature control, then everything inside the cabin is OK.
The problem is that there is no coolant flowing through the heater core. Either the heater core get clogged up or an electric valve control the amount coolant to the heater core gets stuck not opening when asking for heat.
Have a shop check to see if there is flow or not when they do a flush on the heater core. Measuring the resistance is not telling the true story since the coil is never burnt, but the valve is stuck due to debris and residues from coolant flowing through. Hope it can help.
1995 lexus sc400 heater works
Heater cold when at idle: Try stopping on a steep incline--does the heater stay warm? If yes, what you have is an air bubble that hangs at the heater hose until pressure from the water pump blows thru it as the engine speeds up. Park on an incline, open the radiator cap, run the engine until the thermostat is open, and fill the radiator to the neck. Wait until the level stops dropping and make sure bubbles don't continue to come up. If they do, you may have a blown head gasket that will keep forming these bubbles until you change the gasket. Please let me know if you have questions.
Where is the heater core located on a 1992 lexus
every heater core i ever saw was behind the glovebox, above the passenger's feet, except the volvo, they put it above the driver's feet. follow the heater hoses under the hood and you can see where they meet the firewall, the core is right on the other side. if the car is otherwise running fine, then most often plugged core, however there are also many cases where the cold air blender flap gets stuck open keeping it always in cold mode. a call to a dealer service department and they can tell you if this is common or unknown on your year. it is 18 years old, and every year past 10 is a good one.
