Cranking problems with 97 jeep 6 cylinder, with key on fuel pump not running, but did jump test on pump and pump is working, fuel gauge show empty, what can be the problem
Assuming you have the 4.0 six look on the fuel rail towards the front of the engine and find a small black cap that looks like a valve stem cap on a tire. Remove this cap and place a pressure gauge on the line. You should have about 40 PSI. If the fuel pump is running as you say then yo u should have pressure. There is also a micro screen on the fuel pump in the fuel tank which can get plugged up. But, usually the vehicle will start and starve for fuel when accelerating. If you don't have the required pressure delivery at the fuel rail then the problem is probably with the fuel pump located in the fuel tank. This is just a starting point for you. Hope this steers you in the right direction.
