Does the fuel gage read any higher now that you put fuel in it? If so, It was probably out of gas like you suspected. However, running a vehicle out of gas is extremely ******* fuel pumps. If your fuel pump was worn, with a lot of miles, it is probably toast now.

This is not a simple job and requires the removal of a substantial part of your engine, unless you have reasonable mechanical skills it is not something that can be done without taking it to a mechanic.

Sounds like the EGR valve is stuck in the open position which will cause it to idle very low and very rough.If you can drive it up 50 mph or more and the motor smoothes out then take the EGR valve off and clean the carbon out of it with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and wire brush or replace it with a new one.

with age of car probly both need replacin--but inspec egr 1st-its common to hav an internal vacuum leak-which stalls car at low speeds----if u change the cat-after market ones dont work

The password can only be retrieved from service center or from the dealer of the unit.
Because at the back of the unit there is a serial number mentioned and the password/code only can be retrieved from the serial number. Each and every device/unit has its own serial number so one serial number code/password will not work with other serial number code password.
The service center or the dealer has the list of code for the serial number so as soon as you provide the serial number he will get the password/code retrieved for you through the list.
