2003 Mercury Mountaineer - Page 5 Questions & Answers
Whining in the rearend as long as you accelerate
Sounds like rear pinion bearings or the ring and pinion is worn and causing the problem, sometimes you may be better off to find a lower mileage used rear carrier unit, they typically come with a warranty, be sure to use recommended fluid.
2003 mountaineer V8 Temp gauge jumps to hot not over heating. Replaced thermostat, no change
The Engine Temp. sensor is bad. it is under the intake manifold. if there is a miss also check under the coils over the spark plugs. If there is Coolant in the spark plug holes .then the intake gasket is leaking. The intake manifold needs to come off to change the coolant sensor. When off look for corrosion on the cylinder head at the coolant port. If there is corrsion then the cylinder head must be replaced.
Remove fan
You need to loosen the fan shroud and then remove the blade from the fan clutch.
Where does the transmission fluid go in a 2003 mercury mountainee
nope there is no dipstick, to put fluid in, you have to take out the inner drain plug, if you look on the trans pan you will see a drain plug with either a torx or allen head plug in the middle, take this out with the engine running and at normal temperature, dont worry fluid will not come pouring out (there is a standpipe that goes up into the trans) to add fluid you need to squirt it up through this hole with a tube or whatever you can find that works, when it is full you will have a steady drip from the plug, thats the only way to do it. hope this helps
