1993 Mercury Tracer Questions & Answers
93 mercury tracer turn signal flasher
I recently tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my jcb 3cx site-master.
It would'nt move forward or reverse, engine was good both solenoids for forward and reverse worked, but still couldn't diagnose the problem.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and now it works perfect! covers wiring, codes, diagrams, torque specs, PCV, everything

Engine overheating after driving for like 20 miles or so
Yes a stopped up catalytic converter can make it run hotter . Something else to look at is air in top of motor, Some cars have a bleeder valve to let air out . If not loosen the highest holes clamp to let air seep out , if coolant comes out look at other things such as timing ,stopped up radiator, to much fuel.
How to adjust brakes on 1993 mercury tracer ?
Drum brakes are self adjusting. Every time you put on the brakes while backing up, they tighten. If you just replaced the shoes, just do this a bunch of times and they will tighter themselves
Brake pedal goes almost to the floor
Is the brake fluid low in master cylinder reservoir? Notice any fluid around the area. Have you checked your brake cylinders for brake fluid leaks?
Alternator is not charging
you can find one in back of many manuals. not sure if this one has it.
or go online to try to find it, hard. if alternator is not charging just replace it. we used to take them to shops like regulators, and they would reword them with new diodes and cores. they are not that pricey.
1993 Mercury Tracer running hot
"rule out" questions - is coolant level OK? Any leaks, especially around the water pump? Has the system ever been flushed. out? If this is the original radiator, it could be clogged. Is the thermostat installed correctly with spring end toward the engine?
Engine overheating after driving for like 20 miles
try flushing the system , try replace the sensors also. there is a possibility that a bad ground can cause this issue sending the wrong info. to the computer . a catalytic gets clogged up and could stop a car after it gets hot but I would first try the other stuff. you could disconnect the catalytic convertor and see if the car stays running before you decide this is it , they are very costly. good luck
Motor stops when ideling
could be that at idle speed there is either not enough pressure to keep fuel getting to engine. the fuel filter or fuel pressure regulator are keeping the fuel from reaching the injectors. The fuel pump is probably ok else you could not start it in the first place. One other part could be the oxygen sensor on the exhaust manifold needs replacing as well. If your idle RPM is too low your engine could be struggling so if you cannot push down on accelerator to keep it going, it should be one or more of the afore mentioned possibilities. it is hard to find a auto store with an ODB 1 engine code reader, but if someone has one this could identify the specific problem. Mechanics usually charge a really high amount to check this for you. Check your fuel lines for leaks and then those items i mentioned above. Good Luck.
Tracer not starting quickly
thanks to all for suggestions. the fuel system had been checked, plugs were new, and wires. turned out the O2 sensor on exhaust
manifold needed replacing. car started and ran great after replacement.
