99 cougar will not start with key
1 Check the battery, make sure its not dead
2 Check the fuel filter to see if its blocked
When you turn the key, will the engine crank?
If it does but the engine wont start, check your fuel system. It might also be a bad fuel pump.
If it doesn't crank when you turn the key, make sure the battery has a charge.
* Sometimes a car loses connection at the battery terminals. This means that you actually have to disconnect the battery and clean the connectors and the posts on the battery. Try this first.
Most Fords have a device to engage the starter called a solenoid. It's mounted up by the battery in most cases on A Ford, so look for a black and silver device that the positive lead from the battery goes to and try swapping it out. Make sure to disconnect the battery first. If the lights in the dash come on when you turn on the key, there could be another problem. It's called either a clutch switch(if the car has a manual transmission) or a Park-Neutral safety switch(if the car is an automatic.
Lost my key to 99 couger and dont knw what to do
Its not going to be cheap. The key probably has a chip in it for the anti-theft system. The only way to get a new key is from a dealer or locksmith. When you get one make sure you get a spare.
What is the reverse locking mechanism called thats on the shift lever called and how do you replace it?
Without being able to see what exactly is broken, the best advice I can give you is that you are going to have to ask someone who works on cars, probably for a living (i.e. a mechanic) to give you an estimate of what it will cost to fix. The estimate is probably going to be free. Depending on what part of the control linkage is broken, it could be expensive to pull out the broken piece and replace the locking mechanism. Only someone who has done that before is going to know what it will take to fix it.
1999 Cougar: where is the fuel pump relay located on a 99 mercu...
ok your cut off switch is under the glove box in the passenger footwell in the UK version, and mine did not have any further relay until the wiring hit the fuel pump itself, i had been told it was behind a panel in the back under the rear passenger windows, but having removed the entire inner trim of the rear of the car could find no relay at all. my problem was not relay in the end but a dead fuel pumpconfirmed by checking that i9 was getting voltage delivered to the pins of the pump plug when ket switch in position 2 as that is when the pump primes the engine
Rods are knocking,
To put it in layman's terms it means tat the big end bearings are shot and it will be new bearings and crank shaft grind which leads to engine rebuild which leads to lots of dollars. I do not consider it a stupid question at all as it is a common statement by "shade tree mechanics" looking to make a fast buck at your expense.. It is best if you have a series of tests done to determine the condition of the engine first. Find yourself an accredited ,reputable mechanic and have the following tests done.1--- have a compression test (dry then wet) done to determine the condition of the rings and bores. IT will also find if there are cracks and head gasket problems( minimum psi should be around 120psi). 2--- have the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge to find the working oil pressure ( minimum idle pressure around 20psi) reduce the engine idle to as slow as possible and listen to any knocks in the motor. Pull the plug lead of each cylinder in turn and if the knock subsides it can be worn gudgeon (wrist pins) pins in the pistons. When you have the results from all these tests you will have a good guide as to rebuild, replace with a reconditioned engine or get a good unit from the wreckers.
Had a new altanater put on and now the radio won't
If it is a factory radio, you may need to enter an anti-theft code. If it is an aftermarket radio, they tend to pinch or fry wiring in the area around the dash, and it may be unrelated to the replacement of the alternator
There is something green leaking from under the
Hello there:
the green that you are seeing is antifreeze
if i were you i would check all of the hoses around the radiator hoses and see if you see any (green stuff) antifreeze around that area if they are loose tighten them
somtimes there are lines that leak antifreeze and the fan from the motor will blow antifreeze on the motor and it will end up in wierd places ok
hope this is very helpful
Best regards Michael
How to reset my factory
1999 cougar. before they tell me I need a fuel pump I want to be SURE the anti theft system has not shut off the fuel to the engine.
how do I confirm that?
Windshield wipers won't work on 1999 mercury cougar
The fuse box is located under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. You have to pull down the lock release lever to drop the fuse box down to gain acess to the fuses. The fuse that you need to check is number 20 a 10 amp fuse.
New battery now wipers won't work 2003 ,mustang GT
Hi Lisa, I'm glad to help!
Lisa, the first thing to check anytime something on a vehicle quits working is the fuse going to that component no matter what it is. Using a test light you need to check every fuse in the fuse box with the key in the on position. There are other possibilities but this is the most common problem. NOTE: If the fuse is blown and you replace it and it blows again the motor or wiring may be causing it. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Lisa.
Start
could be a motor mount or its not running on all cyclinders
