2005 volvo xc90 indicator warning symbols not working and text window not working and no head lights

Disconnect the battery for 15-20 minutes, then reconnect everything for a "hard reset". Next, I would suspect the instrument cluster may have gone bad if this does not make everything power up again. Also test battery voltage should be within the magic 12-13.5v range.

My 05 Volvo XC 90 shuts down in mid drive or idle mode

So did they put more gas in the car and did it run fine. It's happened before. And just cause the gauge says whatever. It's not perfect and could be a hose leaking inside the fuel tank and may need to be taken apart to find out what's wrong. Has the fuel pump been worked on and maybe done something incorrectly. Can't tell you what's wrong cause we don't know. How long did the car run before it happened again. If you keep the gas above half does it run fine.

2004 xc 90 will go into all gears but will not move when I hit the gas pedal. it will move when in Neutral. I turned the ignition off and when I started it again it did engage in drive for one secon

The small Asin Warner transmission used on the XC90, S60 and some others like Acura TL, gets hot and breaks down the viscosity of the ATF-3309 fluid. The fluid that cools and lubricates the friction bands has broken down. THE ASIN WARNER transmission creates 2-3 clutching sequences per shift therefore getting hotter than any other tranny. The fear is that the transmission friction bands are worn and are not engaging correctly. Volvo doesn't have a fluid interval change. Folks have been doing 30-50K fluid flush as cheap insurance. Does the fluid look brown or dark burgundy? Does it smell burnt? are there any silvery particles in the fluid? All signs the trans needs to be rebuilt, Replacing all the soft parts. Any reputable independent repair shop can do the job for $800-$1200 You could try a transmission flush for $50-$60 for the case of fluid Mobile 1 ATF-3309 is the stuff. Hope you get the car back on the road.

Just had my 120000 service done on a XC90 which I

There is the possibility, the turbo was going out and the previous owner had thicker oil with oil treatment additive in the engine, hiding the turbo seal problem.Did your service include an oil and filter change? Your new regular (proper viscosity) oil may now be showing the leaky turbo seal.Did you have a oil change done at your service?Once you have the seal/turbo rebuilt, may sure to always idle the engine a minute before shut off after fast driving. This will increase the life of the turbo seals.

Radio just stops working, then weeks pass and all

This sounds very much like the ICM is the culprit. This helped me once with the same problem: Disconnect battery and wait for a few minutes, then take the ICM out and the ICM-board out of the little cage and check for signs of moisture. If you find something, first clean the board carefully with circuit board cleaner. Then take a heat gun and treat the board with a lot of heat for a couple of minutes but be careful not to melt it Put everything back together, reconnect battery. If you're lucky the ICM starts working again. Anyway for sure you should check the error codes with vida to see which modules also might be involved in the ICM shout down, could be the antenna/(radio) module too for example. It's sometimes very strange what can help bringing faulty ICMs back to life. There is one magic trick I discovered that helped me last time and since then my radio never stopped working again: With the engine running pull the antenna fuse. Disconnect battery for 20 minutes. Put antenna fuse back, reconnect battery. Start engine and maybe your ICM is back to life.

Hydraulic clutch slave cylinder

it is possible because when you are in panic mode you could have developed enough strength to blow the piston seals in the clutch master cylinder ( the pressure seal at the front of the piston will fail and allow the oil back into the reservoir ) being a 2005 model and presumably nothing done to the clutch system any extra pressure on old seals will cause them to fail That is where I would start to fault find

If the transmission fluid has been changed was it the correct product, Volvo transmission are very sensitive. Is the software in the transmission up to date. If services at a dealer it should be. If not go to a dealer to confirm. If transmission fluid has not been changed, change and ensure the filter is also changed.

2005 volvo xc90 will not stay running, it is giving a code of U0073 generic control module communication bus"a" off. .we have put in new crank sensor. the maf sensor is not the problem

Do you know what a serial data communication network is ? All the control modules on your vehicle share info on it . It stead of hard wiring all the componets on the vehicle they use control modules and a data network . U codes are problem codes assoicated with these networks . U0073 generic control module communication bus"a"OFF Has nothing to do with engine sensors ! Condition The control modules transmit and receive information via a standardized serial communication method - CAN (Control Area Network). The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
  • The control module does not have contact with the controller area network (CAN).
  • Incorrect value runs longer than 10 seconds.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
  • Starting the control module's CAN communication.
Note! The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met. In the event of system communication problems, it is not possible to communicate with the control module. Therefore it will only be possible to read off the fault if it is intermittent. Substitute value
  • None.
Possible source
  • Open-circuit in terminals.
  • Damaged Parking Assistance Module (PAM).
Fault symptom[s]
  • Parking Assistance System, malfunction
  • Information lamp is on
  • Message in information display
A shorted module will cause the data bus to short and cause no start condition . You best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . How to Diagnose Controller Area Network CAN

I have a 2005 xc90 and this morning after I opened the tailgate, I couldn't get it to fully close. It closed but not all the way. It was only 16 degrees. I was able to lock it but it would still open

Make sure your alarm isn't armed. In many car door latches, there is a metal piece the 'closes' around the pin. If 'piece' can be flipped to the closed position with the door open, and then when you slam the door, it does not latch.

What could be causing my car to surge when I put it in reverse and sometimes in park?

Surging is usually associated with a fuel/air fault, or maybe a leak in the vacuum pipe. However, I do believe that the XC90 may suffer from a transmission fault. Have a look on the following links: Transmission Failure Common Volvo XC90 Common Drive Train Problems http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40707

The car is surging when I put it in reverse. Just had the oil trap cleaned which is what Volvo told me was the problem.

Volvo auto boxes are very sensitive to the wrong transmission fluid. If it was changed during the clean make sure the correct Volvo specified transmission oil was put back in.
