I have a check engine light on that comes and

Real easy

At 100,000 miles or in your case, when the O2 Sensor fails,
you replace one or two, if that applies

You replace the ones closest to the engine
If dual exhaust, then you do both sides

Bank A or Sensor 1 Bank 1 is on the side that cylinder
#1 is on

Sensor 1 Bank 2 the other side

You do not have to do the rear or monitor sensors,
they are for catalytic efficiency or converter check
of how it is doing.

CEL P0420 error code Catalytic

That basically is a failed exhaust converter on bank 1,
unless the rear monitor O2 Sensor is bad or both

The car is way too new for that problem

A converter should last 12 to 14 years unless
your engine hasn't run right in years & had continuing
misfires

Don't tell me it has always been well looked after
& maintained, you have little idea what you pay
for these days.

That has nothing to do with the shops you go to,
doing what is necessary over the years to solve
issues. They fail miserably, because they are not
proactive & look for issues.

You could have the front outer CV joints checked, if one is binding it would cause those symtoms .

I need to take off

The bulb in our 2005 Outback dome light has been replaced twice---I found the best way to remove the cover is with a dime.

Good luck!

Odometer code "ill.5"

ILL.1" through "ILL.6" displayed in the odometer field indicate the level of the dash light dimmer setting. These messages will be displayed briefly when the dash light dimmer setting is adjusted. In the '05 Subaru Outbacks, dash light dimmers are known to fail. When they fail, the "ILL.n" message will appear sporadically in the odometer display without changing the dimmer setting. Replacing the dimmer will correct the problem.

Hope this helps

Car does not want to stay running when put in

Hello Katy.

If the check engine light isn't on and I see an issue such as yours the first thing I check is the idle air control.
Here is how the manual describes it.
"The ECM controls the electronic control throttle based on signals from the crankshaft position sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, manifold absolute pressure sensor and A/C switch so that the proper idle speed for each engine load is achieved."

In basic terms the computer and it's inputs turn a valve up or down which controls the air into the engine.
If this valve is stuck or not working not enough air gets into the engine and you will need to add throttle to keep it running.
If the check engine light is on however it would be best to use that as a starting point.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Looking for the headlight bulb

It is only about $8 for the bulb, as long as you have not broken the lens. That costs a lot more.

Headlight has burned out and needs to be bought

The bulb is only about $8, and is not hard to replace.
You just turn the retaining ring enough for it to come off on the back side of the lamp, and then the bulb pulls right out.
It is only the lens that is expensive.
