Engine is making rattling sounds
Hi Cody, I believe that the rattling sound you're referring to may be pinking. This usually occurs during acceleration and is caused by the ignition timing being incorrect for the fuel being used. Try a fuel with a higher octane rating and see if that makes a difference. Regards John
Changed water pump now 1998more plymouth grand
Check all your wires you removed. Obviously something is not connected. Check your ground wires first. When you have determined you have a good ground then check for power to the starter. If it cranks but won't start then you have disconnected something to the fuel or ignition system. If it ran before you changed the water pump then you have missed a connection somewhere.
Can i use e85 gas in my 1999Plymouth grand Voyager
No. Grand Voyager not set up for E-85. If you want to use E-85 I suggest you ask dealer about what modifications you need. But, it is costly and depending on the motor and mileage might not be worth the cost.
Starts then shuts off
if you give it some gas pedal while you start it, will that help it. there is a thing call an idle control solenoid. this allow a little air in to the engine while sitting with no throttle.
First the dash controls went, no power to the gas gauge or temp or speed, then a weak start. Next a clicking sound that stopped the car from starting. New battery and was working when the dash was hit
Initially it sounded like the typical dash gauge cluster solder problem on the main wiring harness of the dash circuit board, and possibly a low battery charge. Both very easy to fix. Your further description makes me think it might be the BCM (body control module). This is a bit more involved. If the battery is fully charged and battery cables are clean and in good condition, do you get any engine cranking or clicking sounds at all? If not, then I would strongly suspect the BCM. I fixed mine by taking the BCM out of the vehicle (not really too difficult) and locating a resistor on the circuit board labelled 331. There is only one of them with this number. I re-melted the solder on each end of this resistor, and have had no further electrical 'ghost gremlin' problems ever since. (over a year now) You may need to do the same with the solder joints on the dash gauge circuit board wiring harness. This problem has to do with defective solder used around that time period. I had to use these fixes on both a 1996 and a 1998 Voyager. Please post any other questions or diagnostic info.
Where is the neutral safety switch?
This van has a PRNDL switch, mounted on the trans(it tells the PCM what gear you're in,also acts as neutral switch for the starter, and operates the back up lights)
