Check the wiring harness between the "A" pillar and drivers door. The harness usually breaks there.

rust or no rust? bent parts, or not : off road damage? using engine out or not? depend no shop equipment and skills depends on luck (ah dang the bolt snapped off, and dang the transfer case is stuck or or or... i guess you;ve never done this, and experienced the realities, of all this.? in my shop id jerk engine in 3hours.with trans. on a pro lift with easy access, 8 hours end to end, no breaks. (mine was a 5speed M/t new clutch ) but is same, jack stands, xfr case off first, and the trans. to floor. 4wd takes a long time and some cars the exhaust is in the way and then its rusted and must be cut off. and and and...

Neutral to drive and back is not an issue. explain more on the start and stop. how long? in drive? what it is does, just besides , it runs and then dies.

Clean and lube linkage and check spring tension on gas peddle to start.

Possible causes - Faulty Speed Sensor - Speed Sensor harness is open or shorted - Speed Sensor circuit poor electrical connection

check for a clutch fluid level problem in the reservoir. IT sound like there is air getting into the clutch system and not giving you full clutch operation.

check out your crank sensor on the back of engine

back side of engine . inbetween trans n engine on passenger side

fuse block under the hood

check your mix of water n anti freeze

you could have too much antifrezz n not enough water.

You need to replace the sockit where the bulb goes. Not expensive at all. Ebay has them. See ya. RC

Check the ground straps. From the battery to the engine. From the battery to the body, and the engine to the body. If you can't find one. Put it on.

If it's not "turning over" then I'd ask if there is at least some solenoid click from the starter. If not then I would guess your crankshaft position sensor has got broke wires inside the insulation from all the years of vibrating. This would be most likely. It let's you know randomly until it fails completely. At that point, the ASD relay will not allow the engine to run and if I remember right the starter solenoid is disabled as well. It's really hard to diagnose from here, but the crankshaft sensor is my best guess. Been there done that. Be nice if you could read the codes with a scan tool.

Your gonna type" jeep 4.0 ac bypass pulley" on google and see that Dorman sells a bracket and pulley that goes where the compressor is. Looks like it's around 50 bucks.

no transmission even stated, so can not answer. this.mine has 6 speed stick 2008, what do you have.?my guess is the car has automatic,and that it has a PRNDL switch on the side of said a/Tand that one segment is failing , NOT STATED WHICH.and you want to DO not want to fix it correctly and want to bypass it.bypassing the N/P is illegal. 2.5L or 4.0L? engine. ever do a full service on this car , with a fuel filter. or wrong gas cap, does car run ok cap off? or loose? ignore cap off DTC errors. EVAP errors when done, ok? start with basics. then check fuel pressure, with a 1/4 tank, is it spec pressure with that brand new filter? yes/no. the filter is part of the top of pump at top of the FP reg. in tank. that be how its done. no need to guess. at all. in this case, the pressure test is after, the cap checks. the wrong cap will have a missing, cap vacuum breaker this cause the pump to fail (it cant suck in a hard vacuum at all, get a new cap) FSM spec, a the fuel rail for pump pressure, Start the vehicle and note the pressure reading at idle which should be 31 psi (214 kPa). if the car stalls with 31 PSI pressures , its NOT THE PUMP. easy huh? just one tool and bam ,hard cold diagnostic facts. evidence. the tool can be had for $20
