2006 Subaru Outback - Page 6 Questions & Answers
We are leasing a 2006
Hi.
Idling problems and problems that ocurr when revving low can be caused by a number of faults. Common faults may be caused by:
Vacuum leaks.
Faulty MAF sensor.
Gas tank cap.
IAC valve.
Distribution problems.
Fuel circulation problems.
O2 sensor faults.
Injectors.
If there is a check engine light , the problem had been detected by the ECU (car computer), and there is one or more OBDII fault code stored in the car electronic control.
The best thing to do is driving to the nearest Autozone, or to the nearest garage and having an OBDII code scanning done.
I addressed you to Autozone because they do the code scanning free of charge. If you go to Autozone, be ready to write down the codes. The scan can otherwise be done for a small fee at any local garage.
The code will tell you what the problem can be. A faulty MAF sensor or a vacuum problem may cause the troubles you experienced.

Ginko.
2006 Subaru Outback: all of a sudden, the cruis
Hello, whenever the check engine light comes on the cruse light will flash as well, that is normal. The check engine light will not come on if fluid levels are low or if the temp is getting to high, I am pleased to know that you checked all of the fluids, most wouldn't have even the slightest thought to even try checking them. The On Board Diagnostics or OBD-2 for short only sets a check engine light when the ECM or Electronic Control Module reads a sensor value either too high or too low, but it has to read that same fault 3 consecutive times in a row to turn on the check engine light (w/ flashing cruise). Otherwise your check engine light would be going on and off all the time. I would go to your local parts store and have them check the codes for free because a dealer will have to charge you labor for them to check due to the knowledge needed to use the highly sophisticated scan tool they use. That way you can go either to an independent shop or a dealer with what the other scanner says is wrong which cuts down on the cost of repairs. They will probably ask you if you fueled up just before the engine light came on, in which that would be code P0440:EVAP leak(very small leak), that means the fuel tank sensor doesn't like how you put the fuel cap on. Subaru recommends AT LEAST 3 clicks when tightening your fuel cap. But until that code is checked you won't know whats wrong, if nothing went boom or bang you'll probably be ok. If it does end up being a fuel cap leak, then just loosen the cap put it back on and just make 1 full revolution, and just keep driving it. The light will go off within 3 full warm up cool down cycles or (drive cycles). I hope this info helps...(subyguru)...
Passenger door ajar and courtesy light on permanently.
Sounds like you broke the sensor on the door to say if it closed our not. There should be a push button that will push in a say the door is closed. Make sure that isn't damaged, if it is then it will need to be replaced. The best place to buy this part is the dealer unfortunately. When you buy that part ask them for directions on replacing it.
Good Luck,

The wiper arm on my rear window is broken. How
remove the cover at the bootom of wiper arm, there you will see a nut that holds the arm, remove that nut. grab arm and wigle and pull up on it until it comes off, then install new arm in the same position.
2006 Subaru Outbach, how many qu and the best oil
Amsoil is a very good oil but expensive. I am not going to tell you what is the best because there are many opinions out there as to what is good and what is not. Just try and stay with a name brand oil at least. If you go on Amsoils site you can type in your car make and model and engine size in the filters section and it will tell you how much oil to put in the engine, give you wiper blades, plug numbers, gap about everything you need to know about your car. Very helpful site and it doesn't cost you anything.
1996 Mercury Villager liftgate will not close.
Maybe the chasis lock (the "U" shaped ring that is located in the base of the trunk moved forward, try to loosen it (not completely) with a star screwdriver, move it backwards (maybe you will need a hammer to accomplish this), then tighten it again and check if it closes. If it does just check if the door seals completely, otherwise you may have to untighten the same part and move it a bit forward tighten it again and check wich is the best position where it closes & seals completely.
Coolant resevoir question
First, going two months without checking fluids leaves you open to not know when it started to get low. If you are filling the tank with gas, then you should check all the other fluids as well. By the book, you have two marks on the overflow container, COLD & HOT, normally we add coolant to the COLD level becuase of expansion when HOT it could overflow and waste coolant. So the new shop did not do anything bad, and the old shop should have advised you to check fuild levels often. In either case over two months evaporation could have reduced the coolant in the resevoir. It would be a good idea for the next few weeks to check it prior to starting the vehicle each day and not the level when cold, then check it when it has had time to warm up, such as when fueling the vehicle. Constanly having to add coolant is a serious condition that MUST be corrected soon or could lead to more serious engine failure. Hope this helps you.
Rusted Subaru Liftgate Latch
Not yet, but if you remove it and take a ladies fingernail file and file between the handle and bracket then use whit lithium greese (plenty) you should be fine for quite a while. Vermonter.
2006 Subaru Outback CD won't advance,speaker pops,radio shuts off
Too much power is being pulled through the radio while you are playing cds and it is going into a protection mode which is shutting off power to everything in the immediate dash area it would seem. I would take the radio to an audio store to see why. Do all of the controls in that area stop working during this problem?
