1988 jeep larado recent

check all your spark plug cables, if moisture gets in to the boots it can cause a short near any metal surface,replace all your fuel filters and run some lucas oil fuel injector cleaner and stp octane booster.those worked on my 89.and the carb or throttle body might need to be cleaned with some spray cleaner,there are 2 different 1's /1 for carbs and 1 for throttle bodies.

When i hold the key

If the key is released and car dies.Then the ignition switch,and ignition lock module needs to be checked.You can check out this with meter It should be 12 volts.Also check the connection of battery to the ignition module.Check and keep updated.Thanks.

I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 inline 6, 4

After about 1962 or '63, pretty much no transmission had a second pump (was called a rear pump) which is why you can't push start an automatic car. Most pumps fail because debris gets into them from a failure elsewhere inside the unit, scoring up the face plate and gears, lowering pump pressure.
You likely have a bad seal, worn seal surface on a shaft etc that is causing you problems. At this point, best thing you can do is either do a complete rebuild or get another good unit.

Most likely an interior light or headlights were left on or door left open. Make sure the rear hatch is closed tight, too.

Check the battery for corrosion...if it's covered in white material, the battery posts need cleaned. Check online how to do it properly. Here is one way: http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-Battery-Connections

You need to check the fuel pressure to the throttle body. If the fuel pump is nearly worn out, it will display similar symptoms. Did you read out any codes on the computer before starting this repair? Good luck!

The ac. wipers signals radio ligter went off in my

Lets Look at the fuses once more the # 2 threw 5 i have seen the fuse be good but it had loss contact in the fuse box, remove the fuse and install them to see if this helps
Also at the battery there is a fuse link check here to see if this has blown or loss contact,, a new one can be spliced in if needs replacemint

Keep in mind that sometimes, this bulbs have two filaments, one work with brake and other with turn signal; also check the flashers unit.

How to fix a sunroof on an 88 jeep cherokee

Jeep Wagoneer/Commando/Cherokee 1984-1998
Sunroof - Removal & Installation
  1. Remove the wind deflector mechanism covers.
  2. Position the glass to the vent position.
  3. Position the sunshade full rearward.
  4. Loosen the nuts holding the glass panel to the side adjustment brackets.
  5. Slide the glass panel rearward 0.50 in. (12mm) and separate the glass from the sunroof unit.
To install:
  1. Position the glass panel in the opening with the logo rearward and slide the panel forward 0.50 in. (12mm).
  2. Verify that the attaching nuts are below the top surface of the glass adjustment brackets.
  3. Close the sunroof to center the glass in the opening.
  4. Tighten the center screws to hold the adjustment.
  5. Open the glass to the vent position and tighten the nuts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6. Close the glass and check the alignment.
  7. Install the mechanism covers.
  8. Adjust the wind deflector if necessary.

How would water enter an auto tranny on a 88 jeep

there a vent in top of tranny if car ever in flood water will get in thu vent other than a flood if u have a open top or soft roof rain water could run down thu floor board or if your using jeep off road going thu creek or river
if u do have water in any auto tranny it will destory it
reason is a auto tranny has a lot of clutch disks and the material disintegrates in water
