as you have changed units but not had success, it is possible that you are changing parts randomly with out reasoning out the problem
to overcome a waste of cash , run the fault codes and determine exactly where the problem is
for example it could be the transmission control module, the servo/solenoid, the vehicle speed sensor all areas of which you have not worked on yet
it could even be a wire problem to the units
Finding Automobile Repair Manuals Online
Many of our patrons are interested in saving money by
repairing their cars themselves. They know from experience
that repair manuals and diagrams can make their work a lot
easier. When their local library doesn't have the manual they
need, they decide to see if they can save a little more money
by finding a free copy of the manual or diagram on the
Internet.
Unfortunately, these materials are almost NEVER available on
the Internet for free! The reason for this is that the people
who publish the manuals and own the copyright aren't about to
give the material away free--they want to get paid for their
work!! Also, many of the manuals are so large, it would be
very costly to place them online and store all the Web pages
or provide access to them from a database.
The Internet, though, has a large number of web sites where
you can buy service manuals and schematics from bookstores,
publishers, and other collectors. Here is just a sampling of
what sites are out there:

code p 0601 refers to engine control module ( ECM) memory check sum error ===causes--- ECM
to correctly reset an ECM use a scan tool for the job
removing the battery can corrupt the CPU program of the ecm and while if can work in some instances there are many cases where other problems are created by that method
Try substituting a know good ECM if the reset fails
They can burn out. Most times I have seen they were taken out. Have the codes read, if any. Parts stores do this for free. Moat garages also read them for free. Diagnostics cost though.

How To Change The PCM On A Chrysler PT Cruiser ... things wrong with my car now, but had I replaced the PCM (aka) ECM a long time ago, ...
Chrysler recommends using HOAT (Hybrid Organic Acid Technology) formula coolant in PT Cruiser. If you want to do a partial refill and don't know which coolant has been used in your car, you need to do a complete flushing and HOAT replacement because HOAT coolants can't be mixed with other types of fluid.
Don't assume that HOAT is in the car now as a previous owner may have flushed it and replaced it with another coolant type.
Different coolant types, whatever they are, must never be mixed and you need to get all the old coolant out before adding the new fluid if the new is a different type.
Buy the genuine Mopar coolant for the PT which is available in the concentrate or in the premixed form.
Possible starter failure if the engine doesn't crank. You can try tapping on the starter motor using a blunt object while turning the key to see if it starts. If it starts, suspect a defective starter motor. If it is a manual transmission, you can push start it in gear
