I have a 2006 Cadillac

Probably a crankshaft position sensor problem. Is the check engine light on, and if not, does it EVER come on? People sometimes do remove trouble lights to sell troubled vehicles!

Keyless entry remote programming

Hello here is the instructions for programming the key fobs

This procedure will add, replace, or invalidate all key fobs. This procedure requires that you have a known good key fob available, a new/replacement key fob, the vehicles mechanical key, and a scan tool.
Method 1 is also used for the initial programming of fobs to a new replacement RCDLR. In this instance, the new RCDLR comes ready to learn the first key fobs introduced. Perform the learn procedure as outlined, with the exception that the new RCDLR does not require a known good key fob be placed within the interior of the vehicle.
Note: This procedure is not available when the maximum number of fobs (4) have been programmed. If 4 key fobs are programmed to this RCDLR and this method is attempted, the driver information center (DIC) will display MAX FOBS LEARNED and the programming procedure will exit. Methods 2 or 3 must be used in this instance.
  1. The vehicle must be OFF.
  2. Place a known key fob and any new/replacement key fob(s) to be programmed in the cupholder inside the vehicle. DO NOT place any fobs in the console fob pocket at this time.
  3. Insert the vehicle key in the driver door lock cylinder located in the driver door handle and cycle the key 5 times within 5 seconds.
  4. The DIC will display a message: READY FOR FOB X (X = fob 2, 3, or 4). → If the DIC displays: OFF/ACC TO LEARN, the known fob has not been recognized. At this time, programming will revert to Method 2.
  5. If the DIC is displaying the correct fob number that needs to be programmed, skip ahead to step 9.
  6. If the DIC is not displaying the correct fob number that needs to be changed (i.e., the DIC is displaying: READY FOR FOB 3, and you wish to program FOB 1), use the scan tool to access the following: • Vehicle Control Systems • Computer/Integrating Systems • Module Setup • Remote Control Door Lock Receiver • Program Key Fobs
  7. Select the fob position you wish to program: Note: Selecting Invalidate All Fobs will erase any known fobs and will cause the DIC to prompt READY FOR FOB 1, requiring all fobs to be relearned to the vehicle.
    • Invalidate All Fobs • Program Fob 1 • Program Fob 2 • Program Fob 3 • Program Fob 4
  8. With the fob position selected, press the PROGRAM soft key on the scan tool. The DIC should display: READY FOR FOB X (X = fob 1, 2, 3 or 4, depending on the selected position)
  9. With the DIC displaying the correct fob position that is to be programmed, place the new/replacement key fob in the console fob pocket with the buttons facing forward.
  10. A beep will occur once the fob has been learned.
  11. If programming additional key fobs and there is no DIC prompt that indicates READY FOR FOB X, repeat steps 7 and 8.
  12. Exit programming mode by pushing the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition switch. Note: Failure to exit programming mode (press OFF/ACC) prior to pressing the UNLOCK button of each key fob programmed will result in that fob being inoperative. Pressing the UNLOCK button completes the programming sequence and is require to ensure transmitter operation.
  13. Press the UNLOCK button on each key fob that was programmed to finalize the programming and confirm system operation.

I have a 2006 STS Cadillac that is no longer recognizing the fob.

Either the fob batteries are low, or the antennae that gets the signal has an issue. Find a local alarm installer / radio installer or auto locksmith. The can test and/or replace the batteries and check the system with a pro grade scan tool computer..

How can I change the rotors and brakes on a 2006

Front brake
Step 1: Identify Front Disc Brake Components
brake_pads_rotor.jpg
Front Wheel Drive Brake Assembly
Most front disc brake components include: brake rotor, brake pads, brake caliper, caliper mount and brake flex hose. Brake service usual occurs between 20,000 and 40,000 miles depending on driver habits, road conditions and brake pad/ rotor materials used.
Step 2: Remove Brake Caliper to Replace Pads
brake_pad_set.jpg
Removing Brake Caliper Mounting Bolts
Locate primary caliper mounting bolts; apply wrench pressure counter-clockwise (When looking at the head of the bolt) to remove the bolts, upper and lower. Make sure the bolt threads are in good shape and replace if necessary.
Step 3: Remove Front Brake Caliper
remove_brake_caliper.jpg
Remove Front Brake Caliper
After removing the primary caliper mounting bolts lift the brake caliper off of the rotor and then tie or secure to the side, being careful not to bend or kink the brake caliper flex hose. Thoroughly inspect brake caliper and brake hoses for leakage, cracks or chaffing and replace as needed. Next remove the brake pads (If not mounted in the caliper) and secondary caliper mounting bolts. Notice how great protective gloves work, most technicians use them on the job today.
Step 4: Remove Brake Pads

Remove Front Brake Pads
Once the brake pads have been removed, make sure if there is anti rattle hardware to transfer to the new brake pads. Some brake pad manufacturers will include the proper lube (Caliper slides) and anti-rattle hardware to ensure proper performance of their product.
Step 5: Remove Caliper Mount
remove_brake_pads_holder.jpg
Remove Caliper Mount Bracket
Finish removing secondary caliper mount bolts and remove caliper mount. Note: clean and lube caliper slides and pad friction surfaces of all foreign material or build-up.
Step 6: Remove Brake Rotor
brake_rotor.jpg
Remove Brake Rotor
With the caliper mount out of the way you can now remove the brake rotor. Sometimes it can get stuck so you may need to tap it with a hammer or use penetrating oil to free it up. Some manufacturers use small screws to hold the rotor on as well. Clean and inspect wheel studs, replace if any are damaged. Also clean bearing hub rotor mount surface to ensure the proper mounting of the new brake rotor. Inspect the ABS sensor wheel for cracks or damage and replace as needed.
Step 7: Depressing the Brake Caliper
compress_caliper.jpg
Resetting Brake Caliper
To install the new brake pads you must retract the brake caliper piston. Remove the master cylinder lid or open the brake caliper bleeder screw to allow excess brake fluid to be released if necessary. Install C clamp tool and gently tighten clamp until caliper piston is fully depressed. Note: use old brake pad to protect the caliper piston. Close the bleeders once the piston is retracted completely
Step 8: Installing New Brake Rotor
new_brake_rotor.jpg
Install Brake Rotor
Install new brake rotor, the new rotor is manufactured with a protective film over the rotor to keep it from rusting, remove protective film with brake cleaner before installing; also after the brake job is complete you may experience a small amount of smoke from the rotor when first used. This is normal and will go away after the first couple of uses.
Step 9: Installing New Front Brake Pads
new_brake_pads.jpg
Installing New Brake Pads
Reinstall the front brake caliper mount, and then install front brake pads. Make sure the pads are seated properly in the caliper mount; it must be a close fit to work properly..
Step 10: Reinstall Front Brake Caliper
front_brake_rotor_pads.jpg
Re-Install front Bake Caliper
Reinstall front brake caliper and reinstall caliper-mounting bolts, recheck all mounts and mounting bolts. Check the caliper slides to be sure there is no bind and that the caliper moves freely back and forth on the caliper slides. Bleed brake system per manufacturer's specifications to relieve any air trapped in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly, repeat until normal brake pedal operation resumes, this operation is forcing the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors.

06 Cadillac STS V8 car has codes P0174 and P0420.

• DTC P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1 • DTC P0174 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2 . The engine control module (ECM) controls the air/fuel metering system in order to provide the best possible combination of driveability, fuel economy, and emission control. Fuel delivery is controlled differently during Open and Closed Loop. During Open Loop, the ECM determines fuel delivery based on sensor signals without oxygen sensor (O2S) input. During Closed Loop, the O2S inputs are added and used by the ECM to calculate short and long term fuel trim (FT) fuel delivery adjustments. If the O2S indicates a lean condition, FT values will be above 0 percent. If the O2S indicate a rich condition, FT values will be below 0 percent. Short term FT values change rapidly in response to the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) voltage signals. Long term FT makes coarse adjustments in order to maintain an air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1. If the ECM detects an excessively lean condition, DTC P0171 or P0174 sets. Diagnostic Aids • Excessive resistance in the fuel injector ignition 1 voltage circuit or the fuel injector control circuit may cause the following symptoms: - Lean condition - Misfire - Rough idle • The system will go lean if an injector is not suppling enough fuel. • A lean condition could be present during high fuel demand. • A malfunctioning MAF sensor can cause this DTC to set. Refer to DTC P0101 . • Review the Failure Records with a scan. If an intermittent condition is suspected, refer to Intermittent Conditions . DTC Descriptors This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs: • DTC P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1 • DTC P0430 Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 2 This code could mean the catalytic converter on that bank has failed . Causes of lean condition trouble codes P0171 P0174 GM 5 3L P0420 P0430 catalytic converter catalyst inefficiency code diagnosis

Driver's side door won't open in the cold

. Power Door Lock Operation (Front Doors) The front doors do not have traditional door lock actuators. They have electronically controlled door latches that will operate depending on the status of the door lock system. This status is determined by the front door modules and the last known state of the lock system. If the last known state is LOCK, the latches will not release when the door handles are operated. If the last known state is UNLOCK, the latches will release when the door handles are operated. The front doors are also equipped with red door lock status indicators. The front door modules will supply power and ground to the indicators to illuminate them when the lock system is in a virtual state of lock. The indicators will not continuously illuminate when the vehicle is locked. They will illuminate for approximately 5 seconds after a lock switch activation or after a door handle has been operated and the front door modules are in a virtual state of lock. For further information on the front door latches, refer to Power Door Latch Description and Operation . I would assume they check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ? DTC B3062 Front Door Key Lock Switch Circuit • DTC B3067 Front Door Key Unlock Switch Circuit DTC B3849 Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit The left front exterior door handle and right front exterior door handle switch signal circuits provide inputs to the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM) when an exterior door handle switch is activated. These inputs allow the door module to detect a door open request. The door modules provide voltage to the door handle switches. If the door module detects that a ground is applied for greater than 30 seconds continuously, a DTC is set and the door module will ignore the door handle switch input.
