I have Audi A6 Avant

The rims on cars are often given letter codes indicating the degree of offset. If you wheel is 15mm offset then it should always be 15mm. By fitting wider wheels the wheel not only sticks out further but also sticks in by the same amount. For example if you moved to a 8" width rim, this is an approximate increase of 50mm, the offset of the new rim should still be 15mm but the wheel now sticks out a further 25mm and also stick in by 25mm. The offset always remains the same and any increase in rim width should be balanced either side of the offset line. Failure to do this will result in an altered geometry of tire contact point with the ground. This might make the car take on a an aggressive stance but it will ruin the handling at slow speed and be downright dangerous at high speed.

The exhaust smells sweet and

Check out if head-gasket is having a leak.As this is the indication of head gasket leak.Milky oil is for a headgasket that blows towards an oil passageway. Foamy / boiling coolant is from a headgasket that blows towards a coolant passage. Also check the radiator if the cap is loose. If the oil is clear.Your coolant leak maybe caused by one or more of the following: (1). Intake manifold gasket, (2). "O" ring seal on back of the water pump housing, (3). Thermostat housing or gasket. It sounds like your radiator is leaking a little. The coolant gets on the radiator cooling fins and evaporates to give you a sweet pungent smell. Replace the radiator and your problem should go away. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. What is the normal operating

There is no defined temp range for oil. When engine is cold, oil will stay at ambient temp. When very hot with engine under stress it may reach about 110 C. Cooling system should keep engine below this temps (oil can work at over 150C). Regular operating temperature should not go over 90C too often, if it does stay at 90 all the time you may have used incorrect oil. Refill and replace oil filter and check coolant system and oil pump (this fails quite often on A6, particularly with high mileage).
the gauge range on 2000 Audi A6 should be 60-170C.

What type of radiator fan

hi you should have twin electric fans on this model, you should know when these work as if they did not your car would definitely overheat, what you need to do to make sure these are working is start your car lift hood/bonnet look at the front where the radiator is, you should see both cooler fans, let the vehicle idle until it gets to half way on the temperature gauge, when it goes over a tad the fans should then cut in, if it goes way over and still no fans cutting in then you have a problem, this could be a couple of things, thermostat could be u/s or fan switch could be u/s it is very rare that it would be the fans going u/s hope this helps

Hi Steve. The radiator fan

The fan has a 'heat activated 'clutch' the more heat the more the fan 'locks' in and forces air over the radiator - thus cooling the water flowing through it.
So - replace the fan clutch available at all parts houses for under 50.00 USD
Pull the batter
- remove the water pump belt -
you may want to remove the radiator for clearance - careful the radiator can cut you deeply if you're not protected so wear good gloves.

I am baffled. My 2000

First check out the coolant level if it is low then this can be the reason of car overheating. Also get the radiator cap checked if its loose or worn out it can be the reason for car overheating. Also get the water pump checked if its loose or blocked then low water flow may cause car to over heat. I agree that you got the no leak pressure test and found nothing but if the coolant level is low then car will overheat. If everything check out OK, then check whether the thermostat fan is running or not if not then its the faulty part.Check and confirm whether the fan comes up when the temperature rise.If the fan comes up then its not the faulty part and thermostat is the faulty part it has to be checked and replaced to solve the problem.

Is the coolant level low? if it is look for leaks under the engine and at the radiator tanks on either side and inspect all the coolant hoses. You should have the radiator cap pressure tested. it can also be a thermostat that is stuck closed a bad cooling fan relay or a bad coolant temperature sensor which the main fan relies on to engage.

Tiptronic box on Audi A6

Any possible faulty of synchronization there, or insufficient pump output (e.g. voltage at the pump for additional shift stage V190 is too low), pump is defective or suction/ pressure lines are blocked); I suggest check your hydarulic regulator and the valve solenoid in the case; also confirm that the pressure in the system its according with your service manual.

Keep in mind to check the Control Unit/Shifting Strategies. The low range additional shift stage must only be used with the engine running. If the engine is switched off while in low range, low range will automatically be switched OFF when it is restarted and the clutch is actuated. This will prevent unnecessary low range operation.

If the engine is stalled and restart within 15 seconds, low range will be retained (no automatic OFF). It is assumed that the driver would prefer this, in this situation.

Fitting location:
The additional shift stage control unit J554 is located in the housing box below the carpet in front of the passenger seat (instead of the control unit for the automatic gearbox).
