How to remove transmission lines on a volvo 2.5t?
There are little clips that you squeeze in towards the line and that releases them. Squeeze the clips, then pull the line straight out of the radiator. Very simple. When you've done it, you'll go "aaahhh, that's neat!". :D
To reinsert the line, squeeze the little clips again and push the line back in and then gently give it a tug to ensure it latched properly.

Hard shifting transmission
make sure the trans fluid level is correct and the fluid is not dark in colour and has a burnt smell. if this is good then you have a problem in the trans itself that needs to be checked out. check to see if there is a code in the tcm that could help find the problem.

Volvo code p0017
Ok, P0017 = Cam/Crank Position Correlation Sensor B Bank 1, so that's your Camshaft Position sensor ; which could be either faulty or set in the incorrect position.

Ran out of gas
Fuel pump probably went bad, they keep there cool from being in the gas and when you run low can pick/up dirt water etc. I have seen lots of cars run out and ruin the pump. But you could try a fuel filter and get checked by a much before buying a new one.
