How long should a Volvo xc90 blower motor and resistor last. I had one replaced at around 120k miles and now it need to be replaced again at 220k miles?

the motor will last just about for ever but the resistors are prone to burning out but 100.000 klms which equals to around 5 years is good for resistors they are placed in the air flow in the motor housing and are cooled by the air flow but are subject to vehicle vibration later models have done away with the resistors and use a module instead which seldom fails

Can anybody tell me the correct type and weight of

Oil filter is provided by year, make, model of your vehicle at the parts store. ---
Oil and fluids Oil quality
Engine oil must meet the minimum ILSAC specification GF-2, including ACEA A1, API SJ, SJ/CF and SJ/Energy Conserving.
Your Volvo has been certified to standards using ILSAC oil specification GF-2 5W-30. Volvo recommends use of oil with a quality rating equal to or higher than ILSAC GF-2. Equivalent and better oils include ACEA A1, API SJ, SJ/CF, and SJ/Energy conserving. Lower quality oils may not offer the same fuel economy, engine performance, or engine protection.
Volvo Cars recommends Castrol. Depending on your driving habits, premium or synthetic oils may provide superior fuel economy and engine protection. Consult your Volvo retailer for recommendations on premium or synthetic oils. Oil additives must not be used. NOTE: Synthetic oil is not used when the oil is changed at the normal maintenance is carried out. This oil is only used at customer request, at additional charge. Please consult your Volvo retailer. Operation in hot climates.
When temperatures exceed 86° F (30° C) in your area, Volvo recommends, for the protection of your engine, that you use a heavier weight oil, such as SAE 10W-30. See the viscosity chart below. pg129a.jpg Oil viscosity (stable ambient temperatures)
Operation in temperate climates
Incorrect viscosity oil can shorten engine life. Under normal use when temperatures do not exceed 86° F (30° C), SAE 5W-30 will provide good fuel economy and engine protection. See the viscosity chart above. Extreme engine operation
Synthetic oils meeting SAE 10W-30 and complying with oil quality requirements are recommended for driving in areas of sustained temperature extremes (hot or cold), when towing a trailer over long distances, and for prolonged driving in mountainous areas. Changing oil and oil filter
Oil and oil filter changes should be made at 7,500 mile (12,000 km) intervals. Volvo does not recommend the use of oil additives.
Synthetic oil is not used when the oil is changed at the normal maintenance intervals except at ower request and at additional charge. Please consult your Volvo retailer.

How do I replace the firebox in a 2004 XC90 Volvo?

I have never heard of a "firebox." I do not know what the dealer is referring to. Is there a part number or alternative description? (The dealer may be taking you for a ride... beware!) He may be referring to the "flame trap," which is basically a thermal barrier.

The awd does not engage the back wheels on the 04 xc90 Volvo how ever the "w" does appear on dash

There are quite a few things that can cause this. It should be as simple as a software upgrade to the differential electronic module or as expensive as an angle gear. I don't know of a safe way to check if the driveshaft is turning without raising the car off the ground, but that's where you'll need to start. If the driveshaft turns but the rear wheels are not engaging then the codes will need to be pulled and the system diagnosed. If the driveshaft does not turn then the angle gear or the collar that connects the transmission to the angle gear is stripped The only thing I could tell you that might actually help right now is... Remove the battery cover in the rear of the vehicle, it's under the load floor. Disconnect the battery cables and leave them off for two minutes. Reconnect them and drive the car. If the AWD engages then a software upgrade may fix it, or there's an intermittent electrical fault in the sensor system. Volvo has a complimentary (free to the customer) software upgrade available for all cars sine 2001. Some dealers do it, some not so much. Ask for it, most of the software packages I've seen include the updates to the differential electronic module (DEM) if they have anything available anyway. Hope this helps and good luck.
