Hi, my 2001, Petrol, Manual, 2.4L XC70 AWD (new shape) has recently developed a horrible grinding noise under the front end. We had the ball joints replaced and the noise persisted, mostly when turning at low speeds. It sounded like the front nearside wheel arch dragging on the wheel but it's clearly not that. It's a kind of rotary noise like two cogs not properly engaging. It's getting worse and now happens most of the time under about 25mph. Do you have any ideas please ? XC70fan
sounds like c/v axles (front drive shafts) they will make a clicking sound normally when turning sharp and accell at the same time at slow speeds / look at the axle boots and look for grease on the inside of the front wheels leaking out the axle boots

In attempting to fix the problem, the rear widest part of the folding seat is now stuck forward as the seatbelt will not release. This means I cannot carry the small kids in the car together as there is now only one usuable rear seat. The seat belt is locking where it should pull out of the back seat (at shoulder height). Have tried to free it, but having same problem you're having, backseat now will not go back into upright position - help!
you can remove the bolt that holds the seatbelt to the floor by pulling off the seatpad where the belt goes to the floor and then raise the seat and the belt should reset. this happens on my passenger side rear seat.

I have a 2000 S80 & stopped for gas tonight, but the fuel door will not open. Is there an emergency switch somewhere. Can't find anything in my owners manual.
there is a second release inside the trunk, it is a cable with a plastic pull handle on it.

2001 Volvo V70-T5. Fuel tank is full, but the fuel guage indicates completely empty and the low fuel warning light is on. Washed the engine earlier today (engine was cold / no high pressure water). Cannot identify any other electrical items not functioning.
I had a similar issue and started to notice other electrical failures along with the gas gauge. My rear doors would not lock and my rear wiper stopped working. I started pulling fuses and relays to see if this would reset, no go. But then I hit the jackjpot. In the rear electrical panel, below all the fuses and relays is a 2" x 2" black plastic square with a big screw in it.
Remove the screw and pull evenly on the black square. This seems to be a major electrical hub for the car. I reconnected and all 3 of my issues disappeared...I read somewhere that a fix might be to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, which I guess re-sets some relays and circuits, but I guess this did the same thing. Good luck.

what is the recommended tire pressure? for volvo v70 wagon...
It depends on what your load average is.
Pay attention to the ratings marked on the side, of the tires.
If you carry people, or a descent amount of weight, you should be looking at 38 - 44 psi
or 2.5 - 3.0 bar.
But if you don't, and it's generally just you in the car, 32 psi or 2.3 bar will be quite adequate, all round. Having the same tire pressures all round, is no problem to the balance of any vehicle, again, depending what it's load average is.
Also where the weight is, in the car.
I hope this sheds some light on the matter.
Also don't forget to regularly check the condition and pressures of your boots, atleast once a week.
Happy motoring.

Just bought a used 2002 V70 and almost immediately it seemed like the transmission was slipping and then shifting very hard (making a "clunking" noise and jerking the car forward) especially after slowing down for a turn when I am accelerating out of the turn (also, when shifting from reverse into 1st). A volvo mechanic said transmission fluid is not low and is not burnt, so it is not slipping. He said it might be a computer problem, since thats how the engine & transmission communicate. But he said they couldn't do anything about that. Any suggestions?
Find a transmission servicer that is not afraid of tackling a Volvo problem. This is probably why the car was for sale in the first place. Good luck!

2001 volvo v70 repair code p1103
Your computer has detected an error with the the MAF (mass Air Flow) sensor. In conjunction with the inlet air temperature (IAT) sensor the combination is often referred to as the Air Mass Meter. Are you experiencing a 'surge and slow' effect on engine speed at idle, maybe the idle is erratic and almost stalls at times? The MAF is found as part of the air ducting just after the air filter box. There is an electrical connection to the top of it. Disconnect and dismantle the duct assembly to free the MAF unit. The MAF is a heated foil that sits in the air stream. As intake air flows over the foil it has the the effect of cooling. The cooling achieved plus the measurement of the actual temperature of the air doing the cooling by the IAT gives enough information to the engine electronic control unit (ECU) to estimate the volume of air entering and to allow the ECU to set an appropriate injection cycle to provide the correct fuel air mix. Spray the MAS with electrical cleaner, this is non residue cleaner so do not use anything harsh like carb choke cleaner or oily like WD40. Try to make no physical contact with the foil. (the IAT is bead thermistor sat in the middle of wire near the MAS foil). Once everything has air dried reassemble and reconnect. If the fault has been fixed the error code will be removed after a few restarts.
