That would be a very long list.The computer controls spark to the plugs, fuel to the injectors, and various other things.It could run rough, or not start, or get bad gas mileage.

has to be fuel /air / or electrical....otherwise internal mechanical ....is timing off?

I also have a -99 Forester S turbo with the same problem. Runs like clockwork between failiures but all of a sudden engine turns but will not start. The workshop recomended fuelfilter replacement but I thaught it could have something to do with the immobilizer. what have you tried and ruled out?

1. drain the reservoir
2. remove the two 10mm bolts that hold it in place at the top
3. get a rag then lift the reservoir so you can remove the washer hose from the pump then unplug it by squeezing the tab
4. now gently twist and pull the pump out of the reservoir
5. installation is the reverse of the above steps

Yes, it could be the drive shaft or axle. If you turn the car hard left or right do you hear any noises - usually a 'clicking' sound? This is likely a CV axle in front.

Check the fluid in the transmission (Automatic) (info is in the Owner's Manual) to make sure it's full and/or gear oil in the front differential.

If it's an Automatic transmission, the fluid may need changed - NOT FLUSHED - if it has more than 30K miles since last changed.
