Grinds over but won't start
Hi, from what you describe I would suspect that the starter is not fully engaging. I'm assuming that the grinding noise you hear when you try to engage the starter is INSTEAD of the engine cranking. If I assumed wrong, ignore the following:
Pull the starter, check the flywheel for excessively worn areas. Most of the time the flywheel is ok, it's just the starter. If you feel comfortable working on the starter, just get a new bendix and clean up the rest of it. Any time you disassemble a starter you should replace the bushings and brushes. Never remove the starter with the battery still connected. Remove the negative terminal from the battery before you attempt to remove the starter.
HOW DO I FIND A REPAIR MANUAL SPECIFICALLY FOR AN
The frist place I would look is the Public Library ... followed by your local full service auto parts store. They may be able to order one for you. That failing, check a J.C. Whitney and then Amazon.com
I hope I have given you a few leads for your manual.
Thanks for your question and please come again.

This is going to require the ECU, BCU, wiring harnesses for both computers. You will also have to change the transmissions. The engines are completely different as far as all of the sensors go, so that is why it is required to change computers and wiring harnesses. This would be a whole lot easier if you could find a 3.0 with low miles. This is going to be a very in depth job. And not trying to be negative, but if you have to ask what all is involved. Then it would not be a good idea to attempt swapping the engines. Other than the computers, it will require new motor mounts, transmission mounts, all of the wiring in the whole vehicle. The turn signals for an example, run through the BCM and I am not sure if they send the same signal. They could. But I am not sure. Almost everything are ran through the ECU and BCU. So it will be a very big and difficult job.

This situation sounds like multiple problems. The can't shift out of park is the brake shift interlock. When this happens, turn the key to accessory and then shift to neutral. Then you can start the truck.
Problem is the shifter assembly--the interlock solenoid is not serviceable, you have to buy the whole shifter assembly. The other problem(shift indicator) not matching the position the selector is in, you need to replace the inhibitor switch, a.k.a the range switch. I believe these are dealer items only.
Hope helpful with this information.
