I have a problem with my Cadillac Deville 96 model. While driving, the steering wheel, all of a sudden locked on me. In other words, it would NOT turn right or left. I then stopped the car while the engine was still on. I tried and tried, yet no luck. Co-incidentally, I also then got a message flashing on the panel stating 'Battery NO CHARGE' . After about 20 minutes(while I was waiting for the tow truck), the battery died as well and my car wouldn't start either. I don't think the two problems are related, yet, I decided to ask the experts here. SO... question 1> Are the two problems related > question 2 > What can I do to get the steering wheel turn (considering that my car engine wouldn't even start now) ? Need some ideas here. Thanks
The problem is the serpentine (Drive Belt) belt.Theeem belt is broken or slipping. An early detections is the power steeirng may seem tough turn at times. If you notice slight steering probles. Check the driving belt! Also, check the idler pulley for wear, if the idler pulley bad replace the pulley before putting the belt on!

Where is it? Manual says it's "next to the engine compartment fuse block on the driver's side of the engine." But there is no picture and I cannot find anything resembling an acces door to a compartment there. I found the fuse block but not the maxi fuse box.
HI< The maxi fuses, for a Cadillac deville.
are located Left side of engine compartment, forward of strut mount. Just remove the black cover completly, if you remove the small tap only will find mini fuses, but if you remove completly all the cover you will see the maxi fuses.

How do I change out the temp sensor on a 97 Deville Northstar?
Hello
Do you mean the engine coolant temerature sensor (ECT)? if so what OBD fault code has prompted you to change this sensor?

What is the valet button located inside of glove compartment used for
It is used for programing the alarm, it is used to disarm the alarm without the remote, [in case remote is damaged] and it is used to put alarm system into valet mode, [service mode] valet mode is only really needed if the alarm has been programed for passive arming, [alarm arms itself].
Your main use for the valet switch, [if programed for active arming instead of passive arming] is to have a way to disarm the alarm if the remote does not work.

what dose it mean when the dash keeps flashing (service ride control), then (46), then (service ride control),& then (84).
Hi there:The service ride control light being on is letting you know the system has detected a fault. This can be caused by a defective esc module or a bad compressor. need to have codes pulled out of the electronic suspension control module.
Need some specific dealer tools in order to reset it or solve it.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Autozone gave me these codes P0171 & P0174, how do I. Fix this? Can anyone show me where the ignition control module is? How do I check it? Thank you guys so much for the help.
Determining exactly what of the thousands of parts on a modern car is broken is as difficult as doing the repairs many times. IN this video you'll learn how to diagnose and fix error codes P0171 and P0174 on a 2001 Ford Escape, which indicate vacuum problems.http://www.lightdeal.co.uk/

About once every few months while driving the car shuts off, the steering wheel locks up and the battery light comes on. However, today, this happened 4 times! I have to glide to the side of the road, throw it in park, and then restart the car. The car starts up just fine and has no other problems, as I said, usually for a few months. However, today this happened four times within the course of 2 or 3 hours. Help, please!
I am assuming you mean you loose power steering when the steering wheel locks up, which would be a normal event if the engine dies. Same goes for the battery light since the alternator would stop charging the battery.
Someone will need to figure out if you are loosing fuel or spark when the engine dies, then troubleshoot the problem. It may be difficult to find if the mechanic can not duplicate the problem in the shop.

air suspension fuse location 1999 cadillac deville
Cadillac Northstar owners to those whose vehicle is overheating .My 99 Deville was overheating turns out it was Catalytic Converter.Dont rely on PCM for code.If the Cat converter gets plugged up the heat will not get past converter it will back up into engine block causing overheating. My deville ran at between 190 & 201 degrees this morning. If you have a misfire the unburnt fuel goes into Converter and causes damage to converter (blockage).Alot of people overlook converter when overheating happens.

how many gallons of unmixed coolant does the northstar engine hold ...and how much water mixed with it?
Coolant should be mixed in most cases to a 50% concentration, meaning one gallon of undiluted coolant will provide two gallons of diluted coolant. Most engines will hold 2-3 gallons of coolant mix. I normally purchase two gallons of undiluted coolant. I pour the first gallon of undiluted coolant into the radiator, then fill the empty bottle with water and add that to the radiator as well to make it a 50% mix.. Then, I pour half the second bottle of undiluted coolant into the empty coolant bottle, and then top both off with water to make two gallons of 50% mix. I then add coolant to the radiator as needed until full, keeping the remainder for topping off later as air purges itself form the system.
