2005 xterra. started to sputter and engine light flashing on and off pulled over turned car off now wont restart. cranks but will not fire . got fuel and spark

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

Trailer turn signals work. but markers lights do not?

there are fuses for all lights in your truck. those fuses sre located in the IPDM box, whiich is the box by the battery. there is a black cover about 6inches by 7inches. under that lid is the IPDM where you need to look and fine the fuse that is blown. start there. if the fuse is blown, replace it and recheck your rear plug for power at appropriate pins. if you have power everywhere at the connector and then you plug your trailer to it and the same fuse blows again, then i would be looking at the trailer harness for short causing the fuse to blow.

I need to turn the Check engine light off, due to passenger/front catalytic converter 2005 nissan xterra

You still fail your state inspection if you turn off the check engine light. So Im sorry to say, that your gonna have to wait untill your new cat gets installed. After its installed you have a few options for turning off the check engine light. -You can disconnect your battery for a little bit. -You can take it to pretty much any mainstream auto parts store and they will clear it for free.Either way you have to complete what is called "a drive cycle" to be able to pass your vehicle inspection.DRIVE CYCLEOnce problem is fix you complete a drive cycle. Every vehicle is different so this is a general guide. -There are a certain number of times your vehicle has to be started. -There is a certain amount of time you have to be driving at different speeds-There are sometimes a certain millage that has to be reached (ie. drive 75 miles) If you just drive as you normally do for 100miles (not in one trip) your sure to have reset all the sensers that the state inspection equipment check.SO IN SHORTGet the new catyletic convertor installed Get you 'check engine light' cleared for free at an auto parts storeDrive your car normally for about 100 milesGet your vehicle state inspection
