Does the blower run for a period of time after the ignition is turned off? There is a Tech Service Bulletin (TSB) out there to correct musty A/C odor by adding a relay which keeps the fan running. This is a excerpt, "The Electronic Evaporator Dryer will activate when the ambient temperature near the module is above 16° C (60° F) when the vehicle is started up. Approximately 30 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off, the blower will activate for 10 seconds every 10 minutes for 2 hours unless the vehicle is restarted. If a restart occurs, the Electronic Evaporator Dryer module will reset automatically. This on/off blower activation will dry the evaporator core and case reducing the chance of reoccurring A/C odor. The Electronic Evaporator Dryer is self fused and has a battery rundown protection feature that inactivates the dryer if voltage drops below 12.5 volts."
If you are experiencing something different, please describe further including any condition that cause it to turn off, or those which do not cause this to occur at all.
The Dryer Module could be faulty.
People get the ignition switch confused with the key tumbler. If your key is not turning, it would be the tumbler. The actual switch is either built inthe column or on top of the column just under the dash. If your key is turning to the on position you could jimmy the starter at the S and I terminal and make the starter crank up, but if you ignition switch is bad it might not be switching to the on position. I hope you get it properly diagnosed by a qualified individual and not a guessing individual. There so many other things that need to be checked to eliminate guess work.
The only reasons the Computer [PCM] to have to be reset is either the power has been disconnected or it's memory been erased, just running out of fuel would not cause this.
Depending on your State's requirments, you should have been given a print-out of the cause for rejection. You should have the vehicle"s computer scanned to find the problem system[s], E-vap - o2 sensors - converter - etc. thats not letting the system reset and repair this.
Well Penny if you don't think your getting spark to the spark plugs pull off a plug wire an hold it near metal (ground ) on the engine an turn the key to start (crank it over ) an check for spark ! No the oil sensor is not the problem .
Is the Battery good ? , battery cable connections clean an tight ? Do the Headlamps come on an shine bright ? Does the solenoid on the starter click ,make any noise ? Is there A SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster ? Do you know what a relay is ? In the under hood fuse box is the starter relay , you could check for battery power an PCM control . Here is a video on relay testing ! VEHICLE RELAYS Operation Diagnosis
