Does 89 VW Cabriolet have a power or vacuum brake booster on it?

The subdued sound of a burst of air is a sign the vacuum servo or booster is functioning as it should. For most people most of the time a power booster and a vacuum booster are the same things - there are such things as various types of "power brakes" but they are in the world of specialised motoring and commercial and industrial vehicles. I suggest you revisit each wheel brake and ensure they are all as the vehicle manufacturer intended and the front brakes are not dragging. If they are dragging when turned by hand while lifted on a jack something is clearly wrong. Try briefly releasing a fluid bleed nipple - if that improves matters the hydraulic system has residual pressure. If there is no improvement something about the brake isn't correct. Once you have satisfied yourself everything is as it should be between the master cylinder and the ground you should ensure the brake pedal linkage is correctly adjusted and operating properly and finally before re-bleeding the hydraulics you should ensure a small clearance exists between the brake booster push rod and the master cylinder piston, about 8 to 10 thou inch is about right...

My 89 vw cabriolet automatic wont go into gear after towing it replacing filters and shifter cable

My first thought is bent shifter forks or linkage is off. Start with the linkage as it is easier. Shifter forks are internal tranny components.

If this 89 Cabriolet has an automatic transmission the part is called a bowden cable (same as accelerator cable) Part number is 010 321 307 A for the cable from the throttle on the engine to the lever on the automatic transmission. Another cable is also attached the this same lever on the automatic transmission going to the accelerator pedal.

Long rectangle device near fuel pump leaks fuel on a 1989 volkswagon cabroilet

I need more information to be of help. Is this device metal or plastic? What is the length? Does it have any lines connected to it? If it does have lines connected to it, is it leaking from the line area or another area? Is the device about the length of the fuel pump? This vehicle has a fuel pressure accumulator near the fuel pump, dark olive in color, metal with 2 screw on fuel lines on the same end and a small screw on the opposite end from the fuel lines. The fuel pressure accumulators do leak fuel when the diaphragm inside ruptures.

1989 VW cabriolet oil pressure warning light on at

The Oil light is a dreaded sight, especially at idle. Usually if an oil pump fails, it dies, the same with an oil pressure sender. I had the same problem with a 97 neon, at idle the oil light comes on... (192,000 miles). If the oil used at the oil change was a thinner viscosity than what was in there, that could cause it. If not, it could be bearings going bad on the motor creating a low pressure situation. I fixed it by going to a thicker viscosity, from 5w-30 to 10w-30, and in a week the light went off... this was 7 months ago. Just food for thought, hope this helps.
