Battery went dead while driving put new battery

Well, at least we know it was a good alternator-until you took the battery cable off of a running engine. Now not so sure. Not so sure, either, if your computer survived from disconnecting the battery while the car was running. Here are the facts, Shirley: years ago, that was a valid test to see if the alternator was working. But since the 1980's when cars got computers and electronic systems to do what before was done often mechanically (remember the old ignition points in distributors?), that test is a no-no. And cars have gotten more sophisticated and more delicate electronic systems have come about. All these electronics need stable current supply, and just taking a battery cable off causes voltage spikes that can be deadly to electronic systems. So never, never take a cable off when the car is running, or when the ignition key is on. That said, you may not have hurt anything-it's been done a lot with no consequences by a lot of people who didn't know what they were doing. But just as a cautionary note: don't ever do it again! No, there was something else going on. Did the engine shut down? Or did the red battery light come on? That light is for the charging system-to alert you that the charging system needs attention if it stays on or comes on while the engine is running. The light is telling you nothing about the battery. Find a reputable mechanic or shop to look into the problem. And if they start telling you that you need this or that, make them show you the bad part-hold them accountable. Good luck, Shirley, hope all turns out well.

1995 Ford Thunderbird 4.6L V8 need help to track

A couple of questions and a couple of answers
  • Does it overheat sitting still for 10 minutes? or just when driving? If it is sitting still and all of the above is true then one of the above is not true My money would be on the fan.
  • By the Radiator fan runs perfectly do you mean it spins? if the clutch is worn then you can have overheating issues when it is sitting still or while driving.
  • The gentleman who told you it couldn't be the head gasket is truthful. If the radiator build enough pressure up while it was hot to blow off the radiator hose then the gasket is sealed or it would of just flooded the block instead.
  • Things to check
  1. Is the air deflector and the fan molding still on the vehicle? it is amazing how much of a difference these make on the older long nosed vehicles. IF the answer is no you need to find the fan molding and put it on or get the bottom air deflector replaced or fixed as this is where a majority of the fresh air is going to come from.
  2. Is the thermostat placed in the vehicle properly? Yes almost seems like a trivial problem but it is possible to put in backwards and depending on the thermostat can cause problems
  3. Did you put an OEM water pump in the vehicle? If not did it get put in the car going the correct direction? OEM pumps have flat blades meaning it does not matter the direction Most aftermarket have curved ones causing the water pump to not function properly.
  4. If the pump was installed properly was the Serpentine belt placed properly?

Car will turn over but not start

Thats going to be a tough one.You need spark, fuel, and compression at the right time for the engine to start. You can try starting fluid in the intake to boost fuel, it could have fuel pressure but not enough to start. Or it could have spark, but not at the right time due to a faulty cam sensor. If you had a code reader you could check the computer for trouble codes. Some 95 models are OBD1 and you can check those without a code reader.

Hard to go from park to drive

You need to check the brake circuit with a meter. The brake switch signals the shift lock solenoid to release. It could be the brake switch, or the solenoid, or a bad connection. You should be able to turn the key switch to unlock but not on, and shift out of park.

How to remove bottom part of dash 1995 thunderbird

As others already explain, you don't need to remove the lower dash area to replace the ignition switch, but if you need to remove it for whatever reason, you must first remove the color matched part of the dash that lies just below the steering column by removing the three large bolts that secures it to the dash metal frame (located along the end of the cover) and then pulling it towards the seat as parallel as posible to the floor to disengage the clips that hold it to the dash, then you will see the four screws that hold the lower plastic part of the steering column cover, take them out and you're done.
