Does the engine spin erratically or faster than normal ?

?? 5 Speed Manual doesn't have a cable for shifting. They were still using a direct linkage system until 1995. Cables don't work on Manual Transmissions. I owned a 1990 Shadow. Loved it. Never had a cable on the shifter. The speedometer cable was a pain in the **** but not the transmission.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Can't tell you this for sure, but if you visit a local salvage yard, they have an interchange, that tells them this info. Fess up , tell them your question and offer to give a few bucks.(interchange subscriptions are not free) and they'll be able to tell you.

Might be the timing belt.

You will have to loosen the motor mount on the top passenger side first. Next raise the engine with a wooden block & floor jack so you will be able to get the proper wrench or ratchet on the bolt of the tensioner. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I dont think so, it maybe the bottom radiator tank. When the car is cold start it up for just a few seconds so the liquid can travel through the block the turn it off and look up underneath the front of the car.

sounds like your water pump is seizing up also check your idler pulley
