check for a broken /loose vacuum line on the engine . Trace it back to the fire wall and it will most likely be the culprit/

I have the same problem with my 2005 sentra. It is the vent control valve. The only cheap way to fix this would be to take it off and spray wd-40 and see if it works. You could also get the part form a junk yard. Nissanpartsdirect also has it. I beleive it is officially called the vapor canister.

Sounds like the trunk latch actuator is out.

The fuel filter is housed underneath just after the fuel tank.When you say "shut off" can the engine still turn over, or are the electrics also dead.Check it out. Blessings.
