1986 Volkswagen Cabriolet Questions & Answers
My 86 VW Cabriolet needs
Your mechanic is right but if you can get a used one from a reputable salvage yard(yes there are some). you might save some cash. Problem is if it doesn't work you get to pay your mech. to do it again or as many times as it takes to get a good one. Are you a gambling man?

search forna repair book at a parts plaace or online-a bad idle can be a number of things-from an ajust to a electrical tuneup-replacing parts without good info equals $$
OXS Dash light
There is a counter installed in the speedo cable. Open the hood and look below the coolant resevoir, there should be a black box that the speedo cable goes through. Press the reset button on the box and the light should go off.
Not getting fuel to no. 2 injector and no. 3 injector but one and four has plenty
i would check the wiring to tthe injectors first see if there is power getting to injectors then i would look at replacing them are they individual injectors or a rail type i think they are rail type if so the wiring or injector goosed as the fuel runs along the rail and the injector opens when the signal gets to it if you get what i mean hope this makes sence and helps ivan
No spark
Are you getting voltage to the coil ?
87 VW Cabriolet starting problems
I would start with a fuel line psi test. then have your fuel acumulator.

check this out and see if it helps. It sounds like you are priming the psi up when cranking then it can go. but when you let it sit the pressure drops and has to build up again. I a not a VW person myself but love tinkering, so let me know how it goes.

Vw water in transmission
It sounds like your headgasket is leaking you can install a pressure tester to see if it hold pressure if not replace headgasket and have head inspected.Hope helps.
I need to know the correct position of the timing
For 1.8 SOHC engine then your timing marks are as follows : Align the dimple on the intermediate shaft sprocket with the V-notch in the crankshaft pulley, also Align the dimple or grove in the camshaft sprocket with the upper surface of the cylinder head, where the cover mounts (on the front spark plug side) of the engine. I'm assuming your timing belt broke or something to get yourself in the position, once you align both sprockets you can then install your timing belt. Good luck hope this helps
vdubs 4-ever
The car was running fine.
You might want to start with checking all the fuses, then next replacing the ignition switch. If it seems as though nothing is getting power, think about a battery and have your alternator checked.
