1984 Ford Thunderbird Questions & Answers
Pdm 5
It might be as simple as a plugged filter. Worst case the transmission has gone out and needs rebuilt. Test it by starting off in 2 and see if the car will go to that gear and beyond or not.

Need to remove door panel
To remove the door panel, remove any screws that are in the vicinity of pull handles and door pockets. These screws will be under little trim covers that you need to prise off to get to their heads. Look for the screws around the edge of the panel and also the screw in the latch release handle recess.
The lock knob, if there is one there, will have to be screwed off and then carefully work your way around the door, freeing the panel's clips from their holes in the door frame. (Doot panels are brittle and clip break out easily).
Finally the panel will probably have to be lifted out if the window slot. (If the panel does not come off, work out what is retaining it and remove that screw or slide it off the clip that is still holding the panel. Disconnect any electrical plugs behind the panel. Under the panel you will find a plastic dust sheet that is stuck to the door frame, remove this carefully, you will have to replace it before replacing the panel.

Where do i put oil in my 1984 thunderbird
My friend, if you do not know where to put the oil, you probably have no business working on your own car. Read your owner's manual throughly. But I will answer your question. You add oil to the engine at the oil fill cap, which is normally located on the valve cover. It is a large cap that will usually have OIL written on the top. You also check the oil level at the oil dip stick. You must have the vehicle parked on a level surface and the engine must not have been run for at least 30 minutes or you will get a false reading. Over-filling is just as bad as under-filling. Do not add oil unless you have checked the oil level properly and you know for sure what you are doing.

SEAL ON THE REAR END WERE DRIVE SHAFT HOOKS UP.
This is called the front youke seal, if it is leaking you will have to replace the seal and the crsuh bearing underneath the seal and change the oil. you can reuse the crush seal so you need a tork wrench to do this. If you want detailed help doing this let me know and I will walk you threw it.

Transmission fluid back pressure
Try replacing the filter on the transmisson also check to see if your transmisson cooler is plugged, you can do this by disconneting both cooler lines and putting air into one hole the air should blow out freely if not buy a after market cooler and install it.

Turn my car on and no spedometer
you have to pull the guage cluster out and check to see if the speedo cable is hooked up if it is and still doesnt work you should disconnect it from the back of the guage cluster and check to see if the tips are messed up some older cars that happens on the tip of the cable there will be a little square that fits into the cluster you will know what i mean when you pull it apart just make sure the corners are not rounded on it that should sum up your problem if they are you need a new cable if they are not reinstal the cable and make sure its tight and go for a ride and see if it works if everything is good it should work no problem
