I have an 84 mustang that came with a 4 cylinder.
Everything will need to change eas far as engine, transmission, and most likely rear end.A 302(5.0) swap would make more sense because they came in these cars and there will possible be some factory brackets and other things availiable. When you say 351 i am assuming you mean windser. This engine is in the same family as the 302 but thats about all they share. It has not been in a mustang since 72 or 73 and those were much different cars. If i wanted a 5.0 stang i would just buy me one. this will be a very expensive project and there will be many unforseen problems.

Is there alot of after market parts to a 1982 5.0
a first gen Fox body mustang may be very hard to find parts for, as I believe they and their capri twin were especially prone to something (corrosion, I believe). you may have to search for a resto supplier for the peices you need, due to the fact that your car has officially qualified for "antique" plates for the past 2 years.
http://www.foxresto.com/products/byYear/82 should help, but things are going to be well expensive unless you can find a Junkyard for some pieces.

I put my distributor on #1 and piston all the way
Pull distributor back out, turn 1/2 rotation, replace. adjust cw/ccw slightly as it runs. Any better? What job did you do to the car that made you pull the distributor? Do you have a timing light available?

My brake lights are not
Have a look at the top of the brake pedal under the dash is a switch. It has 2 wire connections. connect these 2 wires together and see if the brake lights operate. If they do the switch is at fault. If not there is a wiring problem. You'll need a multimeter or test lamp to check if you are receiving power to the switch and to test the wiring from the switch to the lights.
Test for leaks using carb cleaner. Spray where you suspect a leak may be. You will notice the engine rpm changing.

Just bought a 1984 mustang its not run for years
Any time a car sits for a long period of time you should completely drain the gas tank. The gas is more then likely stale. Try pouring a little new gas into the carb or use starting fluid. If it starts you have found your problem and will more then likely have to drain and clean the tank and replace the fuel filter.
If it does not start with the new gas, it is either a compression or timing issue. If you have spark at the plugs, and GOOD fuel in the carb and it still wont start I would check the timing. If the timing is on, check compression. If the engine sat to long with no oil in the cylinders they can build up condensation and rust. Then when you try to start it with the rust in the cylinders it can destroy the rings and cause compression loss.

How do i know if my throttle position sensor is
Unplug it and see if anything changes. When mine went bad I could feel the car slightly going faster and slower when trying to maintain a highway speed of 55. This was caused by the TPS. It is a electric servo that turns to adjust the throttle and when they go up they can either not work, or they kinda jitter back and fourth which is what mine was doing.
