My 1999 f150 5.4 4x4 i cannot get key to open

do you use the remote all the time to open the car. if so then the doors locks are seized up you will need to put some wd40 in the key holes and let it soak in and try again and a gain adding a bit more pressure until it give a bit at a time so the doors can be open with the key.

I turned my truck off last night in drive and then put it in to park when it was off. when i left the store, i went to start the truck and the key just spun freely in the ignition with no resistance.

This started out sounding like a lock cylinder until you talked about the lights. There is a release pin with an access hole under the bottom of the plastic steering column shield. You would press this release with a pin or nail to pull out the cylinder. If the spring keeping the tension on the cylinder broke, then the cylinder could have jumped out of position and moved away from the cylinder seat. The cylinder seat allows the cylinder to interlock with the ignition switch that is attached to the steering column under the plastic column cover. But the lights should be controlled by the Light switch as a primary off/on switch independent of the stalk controls for high beam. This is why it is strange that a clearly present problem of a loose lock cylinder would create a second problem with your lights. Many Models have a large chrome or black key guard which is held in by the plastic column cover. This has prevented the cylinder from coming out all the way.It is possible that the Ignition switch came apart internally.

I have a 1999 f150 5.4 4x4 that it crank over but wont start

I had a similar problem. The engine would turn over but not fire up. I was just about to spend a fortune on all the usual things, but decided to have the battery checkrd out first. Saved myself a ton of money. It had the volts but no amps. Put in new battery and It fired up right away.
