I ran out of gas and refueled now car won't start.
when u run the gas tank empty it severly overheats the electric fuel pump inside the gas tank, this tiny pump depends solely on the fuel flowing around and through it to lubricate and cool it so it won't overheat, you have seized up the fuel pump, u can let it cool for an hour and make sure the pump is totaly immersed in fuel before retrying that means u must put in at least 5 gallons of gas.
Where is the thermostat
Follow the upper radiator hose down to engine. It should lead you to the thermostat housing. I've seen it in other locations on other cars but I'm pretty sure that's where it is on a Taurus.

How difficult is it to replace pin within steering column that controls the gear shaft in a 98 Ford Taurus?
You should not attempt this fix unless you have been a mechanic long enough to have someone hands on to teach you. You have to disconnect the air bag. Remove the steering wheel. There is a cover over the steering column that contains the wiring for the turn signals. That complex bunch of wires and switches has to be removed. After removing the flange that covers the shaft and removing the shift lever. the pin will be exposed. I have many years of mechanical work and would take it to a shop that specializes in Ford products. One of the best reference sources to find someone who can do the work is a used car dealer.
