Code p0174
Technical Description
System Too Lean (Bank 2)
What does that mean?
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition
(too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 2 is generally
the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact
your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
Symptoms
You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there
may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a
hesitation/surge on acceleration.
Causes
A code P0174 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
- The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled"
air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled.
There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone
potting material used to protect the circuitry.
- There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible Solutions
Possible solutions include:
- In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick.
Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's
best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner.
Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's
dry before reinstalling
- Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
- Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
Replaced the head gasket, and it doesnt seam to be
fuel pump is located in the gas tank, to check fuel pressure there is an access valve on the fuel rail which is located on top of the motor, the fuel injector branch off it, look for a cap this must be unscrewed exposing the schrader valve. With the key on first listen for the momentary hum of the fuel pump near gas tank, if you hear this hum it should run for about 3-5 seconds then stop, Wearing safety glasses shift your attention to the schrader access valve on the fuel rail after remove cap with ignition key on and safety glasses on you can use afinish nail to quickly push then release the plunger in the valve it works like a bike tube valve. Just be careful because gas will squirt out under pressure I would recommend using the appropriate fuel pressure tester that screws on before turning the key on they cost about $60.00 at Napa it should read about 40 psi, however if you don't have the cash do the aforementioned test but only press on the valve with key on momentarily quickly release. If gas squirts out it doesn't neccessarily mean you have enough pressure to run the injectors but it is a primitive way to at least see if some pressure is present.
Hello i have a ford
Hi that exact error code comes back as being a fault with the egr valve now the chances are getting it changed will solve the problem

powertrain control module(PCM). oh and for where it is stand in the
front of the car in the middle lean to the very back of the engine and
you will se the throttel positioning sensor an inch behind that is the
egr postioning valve and 3 inches to you'r left is everything els good
luck!
i hope that gives you some help on finding the egr valve/sensor getting this replaced should solve your problem
let me know if you need further assistance ok
you can also google how to replace egr valve on ford probe and that will then list loads of sites that should give you step by step instructions on doing this.
it will be in the workshop manual if you have one of them if not use google and you should find loads of guides that can help you
I'm having trouble passin the local emissions
in some cases the converter is good but the sensors that monitor them go bad over time the oxygen sonsors get slower to respond or stop all together theyre supposed to switch signals 60 -80 times a second so a small lag can be big trouble check your air filter change it if its been a while the same with a tune up but most important get your oxygen sensors checked out hope this helps good luck
How do you pull the lock cylinder from a 1996 ford
Remove plastic cover around steering column, where lock cylinder fit in, around that housing, around the lower side if it, will be a small pin hole, must turn key to on, and with a pick hook, push up on pin in little hole, lock cylinder will slide right out, if you don't have key, you will have to knock a screw driver with a hammer where the key goes in so you can turn it, will be hard to turn but must turn it, lock is no good anyway, to pull lock out.
EGR VALVE ON 96 FORD PROBE SE
If it's a 2.0L, 5 speed (1994-7) there are two DPFE solenoids (both w/ 3 vacuum ports) near the oil filter, which control the EGR valve. They are discontinued and impossible to find except on junked cars. (FORD #'s K5T44093-4)
I have to junk my 1996 Probe if I don't find them - Missouri emissions.
What is the firing order of a 1996 2.0 liter Ford
I apologize for the late response...Due to the bad economic situation this site has had a substantial (+50%) increase in the number of questions being asked in the last four months.
For the 2.0L
Cylinders:

(front of vehcile)
Coil:

(front of vehicle)

When my car starts to warm up it starts to pouro oil
sounds like a bad gasket or possible crack in the oil pan. your going to need to crawl under that car and see where it is all coming from. try not to run that car without getting it fixed, you could damage the motor
