Well it could be a problem with the fan relay, or it could be a safety feature of the computer.if the computer finds a problem with the cooling fan or the engine temp sensor, it will turn on the fan to try to prevent overheating. Yes and no. The thermostat can cause a overheating concern but not really a electrical burning smell. I would also make sure the cooling fans are working also.

you will need to do a test with a battery light disconnect the negative wire on the battery and connect one end of the test light to the battery and the other to the terminal with everything switched off if the test light is lit you have a draw if it is not lit then it is something else sometimes door switches and glove box switches wear out and need added lift to properly shut the open circuit down

Have you looked at the belt(s) to see if they are still on the pulleys ?

If you have recently had your oil changed,the oil filter may be loose or cross threaded.Also if you have had an oil change recently it could just be spilled oil. Make sure your oil filler cap is on tight and the dipstick is on tight. While you are at it check to see how much oil you have actually lost.If it`s not coming from the engine,i would inspect the oil pan gasket and the oil pan itself may have a hole in it.

i had the same problem, i had a completely blown transmission (minus reverse) and $1000, time for shipping and 15+ hours of my time later, i had a used transmission installed and it runs again. sounds like your transmission may be shot but take it to aamco first to be sure. they may tell you it has one simple problem and can be repaired. mine, not so much it was gonna cost $2700 to repair. hope your story has a far different ending!!

If the battery has voltage but the car is dead, check the cables and the fuseable links. The fuseable links are wires that act like fuses. There may also be some maxi fuses that power the fuse boxes and major components. Also check the ground connections.In most cases a major fuse is blown or the battery cables are corroded.
