I have a 1995 ford escort with only 130 000 km the car is in pretty good shape except for the idle of the car , when you first start it it runs high at a fast idle and than goes low again when driving it seems to want to stall out unless you keep the foot on the peddle and hints on this problem
Hi , i have a 1995 Escort with 1.9 4 cyl engine , at cold start the engine revs ok but as it get warmer it start to idle rought and die , with a scantool the o2 sensor always reed lean at idle , after checking fuel pressure , air mass meter , EGR valve , and potential vacuum leak at intake and hoses , its the PCV valve that give me that problem , as i remove the pipe with the valve there was a whissle noise comming from it , when i block the valve at its tip the whissle noise stop the engine revs smooter and the o2 reads normal , i replace the PCV and its idling good .

the lights on my dah have gone yet i don't know which fuse i need to replace, i am not sure if it might not be the bulb. The dash board lights would work some times and not others, if i kept tuning the headlights on and off i could finally ge them to work. I want to try replacing the fuse as a 1st option yet i don't know which symbol is the one for the dash.
would be please if anyone can help

Funny story: I had a similar problem until one day, on the way to work, the fuse blew and the dash just wouldn't light up at all. That's when I found out that the dash light fuse is the same fuse that protects the tail lights. It was too dark to drive without tail lights so I replaced the 15 amp fuse with a 20. It blew too. In desperation, I used a 25 amp fuse (stupid!). Back on the road and five minutes later, I smelled burning electrical wires. By the time I found a safe place to pull over the damage was done... but at least it made it easier for me to notice the problem. I waited for dawn.
In the light, I started tracing the problem. This time I started at the back instead of under the dash. I opened the hatch (it's a wagon) and saw it right away. The wire bundle that feeds the rear door had become quite chewed up from opening and closing for 13 years. I had to cut and splice at least a dozen wires and re-insulate them. Everything was fine after that, even my centre brake light(that hadn't been working for YEARS). I only wish I had checked this BEFORE I threw in that 25 amp fuse. Since everything was shorting out in the tailgate, it really heated up some wires under the dash too. Now my power locks don't work. And I blew all but one of the lights in my dash. Now I HAVE to take the dash out to replace those lights. Argh.
So. Check the fuse (I think it's labeled TAIL LIGHT). But REALLY check that wire cluster to the rear door.

My son has a 1995 Ford Escort W/1.9 engine. When he came home from school he said that his Windshield wipers, heater blower fan & power windows just stopped working. I have checked all the fusses, pulled down the cluster of relays from under the dash on the driver’s side. I was able to bench test 3 of the relays and they seemed to work. I also went out to the back 40 and pulled the relays out of another Escort that did work when I parked the car. What am I missing? Is their some place that all three of these are linked? Does anyone have a complete (or incomplete wiring diagram for this car? Let me thank you in advance for your help with this problem.

Replaced the ignition switch, the circuit breaker in the ignition switch wears out, the ignition switch powers the fuse box. You can get a new ignition switch from napa for $128.00 do not get it from the dealer, they sell it as a kit with door locks as well so that the key matches, and then you are lookin at $249.00. Unhook the steering column and drop it so you can drill out the ignition switch assembly, that is a short cut so you do not have to pull the entire steering wheel off. Consolo Automotive

I have a 1995 ford escort lx 1.9 and need to know where the thermostadt is located and how difficult to change
It's fairly simple to change. Remove the water hose from the thermostat, remove the 2 bolts and lift away (may need a flat head screwdriver to pry away from thermostat housing). Below is the diagram for your thermostat. Best of luck.

Check engine light comes on after approx. one minute. My code reader gives me a 214 in continuous memory ( cylinder ID circuit failure). I clear the code and it comes back. What is giving me this code? Runs like a dream even with 220,000 miles. Any advice? Moderately mechanically inclined.
look 214 is not a valid code for a 1995 escort, this is an OBD1 system. here is a list of trouble codes for this year of ford no matter the model.
You should find the diagnostic connector under your hood normally by the fender on the battery side. By just using your test light and a jumper wire, it will tell you what kind of problem you got.
KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) TEST
Model years 1984-1995 all models of Ford
1. Make sure engine is fully warmed. If in doubt, run engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes.
2. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds for system to shut off. Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).
3. Hook up light and jumper (or a tester if you have one). Turn key to ON (do not start engine). Read the codes.
How to do it?
Example code 23: your test light should flash 2 long consecutive flashes followed by 3 short pulses.

how do you adjust headlights??
The best way to do it is to park your car in front on a garage door, a building or put a piece of plywood in front. Whichever you use, park you car at least 10 feet away; so you can tell if you are going up, down or in the middle when adjusting.
