William, your car uses a ballast resistor that causes what you describe. This is usually a ceramic white, rectangular piece, mounted on the firewall.
The voltage to the coil has to be dropped to 8 volts, or so. Chrysler handles that with a ballast resistor and it fails.
To test, you can wire across the resistor and see if you have spark.
My recollection is one side is for the coil and one side for the wipers or something like that.

This is a common problem.

The oil pump is located just inside the oil pan if you remove your oil pan you'll be able to see the oil pump sending unit. The oil pressure gauge switch is located just above the oil pan on the engine block beneath tge cylinder head. Hope this helps.

I have a 1987 ram 50 with the 2.7l Mitsubishi g54b engine. I had the same problem and it was a restricted passage in the carb. after rebuilding the carb and extensive cleaning and blowing compressed air through every passage it was fixed.

Have you checked for voltage at the starter terminals ? It could be the neutral safety switch or the key switch among other things. You can register for free at autozone's website to get basic repair info.

If light does not come on when key is in the "on" position, then first suspect a bad buld in the instrument panel. Find the oil pressure sending unit and ground the wire goin to the unit and see if light comes on (assuming the the bulb is good) if it does then the sending unit is defective. Replace the sending unit and retest.

Hope this helps.
