1986 Dodge Ramcharger - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My 1986 Dodge Ramcharger is
Have you tried setting the idle in drive? If you try that, have a helper setting in there with their foot on the brake and parking brake set. I've seen many high mileage vehicles, that wouldn't idle correctly. Other than an engine overhaul, we would set the idle in drive. At least it wouldn't die every time you came to a stop sign or red light. Yeah, when you put it in park or neutral, the idle would go high, but, you don't drive it in park or neutral.
You can get a carb kit for the carb, see if it helps? The carb kit should have all the instructions you need to adjust settings. In the past every carb kit I used had plenty of instructions. I looked at rockauto.com, they had a carb kit for your vehicle. Find the model number on your carb and make sure it matches their carb number.
If your carb is a holley, you can check the holley web site. I haven't been there in a long time, I don't know if they would have instructions for your carb?

1986 dodge 3/4 four wheel no brake lights have turn signals running lights power to the switch and new bulbs
Turn signal and brake lights operate from a different switch. The brake light switch is under the dash behind the brake pedal. Look under the dash and follow the brake pedal up until you see a switch which the pedal operates. Normally a white plastic switch with two wires. Disconnect the two wires and touch them together. If brake lights come on replace the switch. If not use a 12 volt test light to see if there is current to one of the wires. If not, check for a blown fuse. This should solve your problem. If not, contact me for further information,

Will Not Run
You do not have a lot of information, but the first thing to do is pull the coil wire if single coil, or in sequence if seperate ignition coils, hold the wire about a quarter inch from a metal part and have someone crank the engine. A bright blue spark should shoot from the wire to the metal. No spark, indicates a bad coil. On models like yours it would be best to pull a spark plug wire, insert a screw driver where the plug was and hold the screwdriver near metal to check for spark. If no spark there are several items which control it. The crankshaft position sensor which tells the computer the position of the piston and asks it to fire the plug. If this is bad the vehicle will not start. f you have spark make sure you are getting fuel. You should hear the electric fuel pump in the tank running when you turn the key on. Buy some engine starting fluid and spray it into the air cleaner while cranking the car. If it tries to start you know it is a fuel problem and not ignition. To do anymore I would have to know the results of these test before doing any more diagnostics.

Have 1985 w150 pick up that's not charging, replaced battery, voltage regulator,an alternator, an still not charging
1985 WOW ! does it run at all ? if it does , check battery voltage, should be between 12---14 volts, check alternator also, a parts store can do this for you ! is your regulator outside your alternator ? cause most new alternators have them inside the alternator ! just thinking out loud, but stranger things have happened ! are these new parts the correct ones for your make & model ? battery terminals clean, tight ! make sure all GROUNDS are good ! very important ! what condition are your battery cables ? is your BELT good, tight, not slipping !!! sure your starter & solonoid OK ! not shorting out, from dirt, grease, oil, etc., all fuses OK! I think we covered it, take your time, go over what I mentioned, see it you find the problem, good luck !

What's your problem?a/c vacuum lines inside the cab diagrams
The first, simple step is to check your coolant. If it is low, check the coolant reservoir for leaks. Then add coolant. If that is not the problem, there are other things you can try. The cooling system on these cars are notorious for getting clogged. Flush your radiator and see if that helps. If not, check the two hoses leading through the firewall to the heater core (Under your dash). Run the car with the heater on and see if those hoses get hot. If they do not, the core may be blocked. You can flush the heater core with a water-hose connected to the hoses to the core. Make sure to run water both ways and flush the heater core till the water comes out clean. If that does not work, check the thermostat. It could be stuck...but more likely it is one of the vacuum hoses or the bender door inside the dash. Check the vacuum hoses first, they are not difficult to replace. Honda Parts.

Starts as soon as you
Check for a white ceramic ballast resistor either on the drivers side firewall or fender. When the key is turned to the start position it is bypassed but if it has failed the engine will turn off as soon as the key returns to the run position. If you have a dual pickup inside the distributor that can also give you a problem.

1986 dodge power ram, im
Hi, Hope I can help you.
I do not know how you have checked for spark, but lets start from the beginning.
Lets start with an ignition systems check.
1. I want you to remove the high voltage coil wire. ( That's the wire in the center of the distributor cap.) Using a good pair of insulated pliers. I want you to hold it about 1/4 inch from a good engine ground. Now you will need a bit of help from a partner. Get them to turn the key and crank the engine. You should see a bright blue and well defined spark. Ok, If you have spark I want you to slowly move the coil wire away from the engine ground. As you do this I want you to pay attention to the coil tower. (The coil tower is where the other end of the coil wire is attached.) What your looking for is arcing and sparking at the coil tower. If this happens then you need to replace the coil with a new one. If this does not happen then your coil is working fine, and we will have to move on.
Note if you do not get spark from the coil wire replace the coil.
2. Ok if you have spark now we have find out if the spark is making it to the spark plugs. How are we going to do this? By checking the rotor, distributor cap, spark plug wires and spark plugs.First lets remove the distributor cap. This will allow use to inspected the rotor and the distributor cap. What your looking for is, cracks, carbon tracks and wear at the tip of the rotor. On the distributor ,look inside the cap for cracks, carbon tracks and wear on the terminals. If you find any of this replace the distributor cap and rotor. ( Note if you have any doubt of the condition of the rotor or the cap replace them.) Next lets check your spark plug wires. Lets pull off one of the spark plug wires from the spark plug side. Now inspect the wire connection for a white crusty powder. If you find crust replace your wires. Now you should check all of them the same way, but if even one has corrosion replace them all. You are going to have to inspect the wire its self . Going down the whole length of the wire. Holes cracks burn Marks and other damage. Once again if you find any damage replace them all.
I hope this will help you and good luck to all the read this FixYa
