Mass air flow sensor might be dirty or failing. Clean sensor when cold with mass air sensor cleaner only. that controls the throttle opening and closing.

Sounds like it might be fuel related,,, get some GOOD injector cleaner,, mix generously..run it through two tanks worth.. then change the spark plugs...(the crude it removes gathers on the plugs sometimes!)

A Chiltons/Hanes repair manual for this Xterra will have the A/C schematics you need. When you replaced those parts did you re-charge the system? You may have a refrigerant leak.

Sounds like you'll need to check to see if it is getting spark first. To do this, take one of the spark plugs out, and while it's OUT of the vehicle, connect it to the proper spark plug wire from the car. Get an insulated pair of pliers or gloves and hold the spark tip close to a piece of metal while someone else cranks the motor over. Watch for a spark, if there is no spark there, try replacing the spark plugs first. If there's still no spark after replacing the plugs, then move on to replacing the distributor cap OR the coil packs(it has one or the other).

There is a small bypass hose that goes from the thermostat housing into the top of the water pump. You have to disassemble quite a few things to even get a look at it. It is located directly above your timing belt and the antifreeze will cause your belt to degrade and fail, then you will be replacing bent valves.
