2006 4 wheel drive explorer. We have an

Hello, If you have the 4.6L V-8 there is an extended Warranty for a part called a Cam Phaser . The sound you hear will sound like a Diesel motor and the sound will fade around 2000RPM.

This is an expensive repair without the Warranty and Ford has given 7 Years and over 70,000 Miles for coverage. Some people have been helped with under 90,000 miles.

There are 2 Cam Phasers in the engine and their job is to adjust the twin timing chains for maximum economy and performance. What happens is each Phaser wears and sludges separately and that upsets the timing. One bank will be advanced or retarded and the knock you hear is each side of the motor firing at different times.

There is a short-cut repair tool and method to fix this, but it takes a special tool and a really experienced mechanic to use it. The short-cut method costs about $700-$1000 for the Phasers plus 4 hours shop time. The standard method takes 8 hours or more of labor and additional gaskets so you are looking at $2500.

If you have a 6 cylinder engine, you need a scan to verify that the knock sensor is working and that the programming in the PCM is to spec.

I hope you find my solution very helpful in fixing your Explorer.

How to fix p0710

You may need to add transmission fluid. Also, check the transmission fluid sensor to see if it's fully plugged in or if the wires are binding. It all else fails, replace the fluid sensor.

On a 2006 ford escape the shifter wont move and no power to power point and heater fan does not come on this is an occastional problem

Sounds like two different issues. The shift problem and the lack of power for the power outlet may be connected. The blower motor would be on a different circuit. You may be able to get the shifter out of park when the key is between lock and on. The brake switch and shift lock solenoid would need to be checked if fixing the power problem doesn't do it.

Instrument panel lighting flashing, not staying on

Should the instrument panel lights come on when you start the vehicle or should they only come on when your lights are switched on? I would suspect they should only work when your driving lights are switched on. If this is the case the you are going to have to get behind the instrument panel where you will find either (a) the bulb is loose in its holder or more probably there is more than one bulb. In which case (b) there is a loose feed wire, possibly at a loose connection and it will just need this pushing together a little tighter. There can be many other reasons but with any intermittent fault you need to be in a position to be able to reproduce the fault to discover its cause. You may find with a little GENTLE feeling around behind the instrument panel you can find the wiring which makes the lights flash and you can follow it to try to find a loose connector. If the lights are meant to stay off and they are flashing on when you are driving you have a short somewhere in the system and this requires immediate attention attention, it can lead to a fire as you are driving along. Best of luck.
